Whether you are chasing a Stanley Cup or doing something good for the community, you need a great team.

This year Norwegian Cruise Line partnered with the NHL to help do some good for the environment.

The event was part of an ongoing partnership between the global cruise line and the League.

As part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s “sail and sustain” program, the company enlisted their friends at Force Blue, a non-profit organization that retrains and deploys former Special Operations military veterans to work alongside scientists to accomplish targeted marine conservation missions.

This year the project took the team to Virginia Key, a 1,000-acre barrier island near downtown Miami and the NCL port that is a critical ecological resource, last week. Veterans, scientists and volunteers worked to reduce environmental hazards in one of Miami’s most important coastal landscapes.

Among the volunteers was former Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Worrell, who played seven NHL seasons between 1997 and 2004.

“The world’s a lot bigger than ice hockey, right? We want to be good stewards of the land. We want to make sure that we’re leaving something behind for our kids and our grandkids that they can enjoy… It takes a little hard work at times,” Worrell said from the site while participating in the clean up. “It helps to leave a better world.”

The project, which also received support from organizations Debris Free Ocean, Frost Science Museum and the Guy Harvy Foundation, was a rousing success.

“Norwegian Cruise Line is proud to partner with the National Hockey League to celebrate the values that we share with elite athletes and service members: teamwork, discipline, resilience, service and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Matthew Lewis, Chief Security Officer for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd and former U.S. Navy SEAL. “Together, we’re honored to support veterans and create meaningful opportunities to strengthen the communities we serve.”

[433
49,48,448,82
post-904826","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nhl","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-nhl","tag-sports
["GET
