Surrey councillor wants E-scooters regulated province-wide<\/p>\n

Surrey Councillor Rob Stutt is calling on the provincial government to develop a comprehensive plan to regulate E-scooters B.C.-wide.<\/p>\n
During the September 21 council meeting Stutt remarked that safety concerns involving electric scooters are \u201cconsiderable\u201d and need to be addressed.<\/p>\n
He asked city staff to draft a letter for the mayor to send to the provincial government asking it to establish a \u201cclear, consistent regulatory framework\u201d governing the use of E-scooters throughout B.C.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile E-scooters are currently not permitted on Surrey\u2019s public roads and sidewalks they are increasingly being used in our community,\u201d he noted. \u201cRather than simply trying to prohibit their use, we should be asking the Province to provide municipalities with the tools and regulations needed to manage scooters safely and consistently.\u201d<\/p>\n
