If you’ve been following cycling for a while, you may be seeing some familiar names tearing it up on the streets of Montreal at the 2026 road worlds. And they are also doing pretty damn well.

During the junior time trial worlds, there were a couple of names that stood out—Élodie Malois, Elly Moore and Carter De Veer. They have some parents who were pretty damn great back in the day. Of course, good genes isn’t everything (insert Sidney Sweeney joke for SEO here), you still need to train just like folks did, but it’s still cool to see.

The Moores and Malois

Élodie Malois has been having a great 2026. She won the Tour de L’Abitibi Femmes, took a bunch of national championships, and finished a respectable 19th at the TT worlds. Her father, John, was also a great rider—having raced the points race at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He’s still very active in cycling as a coach.

Elly Moore is one of two talented juniors from a cycling family. She’s racing the road worlds and finished 27th in the TT. She’s also had a terrific year, finishing second overall at Abitibi, including a stage win there, and multiple medals at the nationals.

Elly Moore solos to victory at Tour de l’Abitibi

Her brother Evan is also a talent—on both the road and ‘cross. He had some fine rides in Europe this past winter.

Their parents, Mike and Amy, are also cyclists. Amy Moore was a former national team rider and pro, notably for the American powerhouse team back in the day, Saturn as well as T-Mobile. She, like Elly, also competed at the worlds.

The Holmgrens

TheHolmgren twins are some of the best riders in the world, whether it’s on the dirt or road. They both race for Lidl-Trek, and between the two of them have a boatload of huge results, including rainbow jerseys, worlds medals, pro wins and national titles. Ava just had a fine ride in the under-23, finishing sixth, and will join her sister Bella in the road race.

Why Isabella Holmgren is Canada’s best hope for rainbow jersey in Montreal

Their brother Gunnar is also a talented MTB rider, and their folks, Lisa and Rob have been in the sport for decades. Both of them raced, and Rob is now the national team coach down under at Aus Cycling.

De Veer and Walton

Carter De Veer is a name you’ve probably seen on the pages of Canadian Cycling Magazine. He won this year’s Tour de L’Abitibi and has been racing on the Bahrain Victorious feeder team in Europe. His dad, Craig, was a long-time bike racer and has been a Cycling Canada staffer for years.

Jonas Walton is a seriously talented time triallist, who finished sixth at the road worlds in Rwanda in the under-23 category, and 16th on Monday. The national TT champ has been racing in France for CIC Pro Cycling Academy, with some great rides. His father, Brian, rode for teams like 7-Eleven and Motorola with Steve Bauer, and also took the silver at the 1996 Olympics in the points race.

Another day, another loooooong breakaway for Jonas Walton

Then there’s a couple of kids with some very famous parents when it comes to pro racing, in fact, some of their parents even raced on the same team, US Postal. (Lance Armstrong’s kids seem to prefer football.)

Barry, Hincapie, Noval and Wiggins

Ashlin Barry, the Girona-born, Toronto-living, Canadian-U.S. dual citizen who switched to an American licence after racing with a Canadian one, is the son of Olympic silver medallist Dede and former WorldTour rider Michael Barry. Ashlin Barry rides for the Visma-Lease a Bike deva team and finished fourth in his first year as an U23 in the TT.

Barry’s former Postal teammate, George Hincapie—one of the best Classics riders of the 90s and Tour de France stage winner—is the father of Enzo, who is one of the big favourites in the junior men’s road race.

Barry, Hincapie go 1-2 in Germany

There’s another name that runs in the family—not just the last name, but the first too. Spain’s Benjamin Noval won the junior time trial, and his father—also Benjamin Noval—was a pro with a 12-year career riding for various teams, including Postal, Astana and Tinkoff.

Then there’s Ben Wiggins, son of Sir Brad, who’s racing in the under-23 category. His dad won the Tour de France, Olympic gold, and was one of the greatest TT riders of his era.

Wiggins, Hincapie and Barry actually all grew up in Girona when their parents were racing, and even hung out as kids. There’s also Aussie star racing in Montreal, Cameron Rogers. His parents Raeleigh Tennant and Peter Roger raced, as did his uncle, Michael, a former multiple world TT champ.

Now, they are tearing it up on the global scene.

The MTB stars of of the past

If you followed MTBing in the 90s, you may recognize another last name, Høydahl. Jonas Kind Høydahl’s pop, Rune, was one of the stars of off-road racing, and is one of the few riders—along with John Tomac (his kid races motocross, however)—that can say he won a XCO and DH World Cup, something nowadays that is pretty much impossible to imagine.

There’s a few other names that you may not at first recognize, but also have parents you definitely remember if you followed cycling 30 years ago.

Patrik Pezzo Rosola is an Italian junior and finished fifth in the TT. His mom, the great Paola Pezzo, won two Olympic MTB golds; his dad, Paolo Rosola, was a pro road racer.

Then there’s Bogdan Zabelinskiy. He’s from Cyprus and finished eighth in the U23 TT. His mom, Olga Zabelinskaya, is an Olympic medallist; his dad, Sergei Ivanov, won a Tour stage. Plus, his grandfather, Sergei Sukhoruchenkov, was also an Olympic champion.

Watch Zoe Bäckstedt tear up when Tom Pidcock surprises her with special gift

(There are all kinds of other sons or daughters of former pros in the pro tanks too, Zoe Bäckstedt, Mathieu van der Poel, Manuel Beloki, and on and on and on.) So if you see a last name that seems familiar (and there are so many not even mentioned here) go over to ProCyclingStats and check their résumé—it’s highly probable their folks were pretty, pretty good.

But at the end of the day, these talented cyclists are hardly just sons or daughters of former pros or bike racers—they are making a name for themselves with hard work. Because it’s not just about cycling DNA or having a famous last name—you also have to put in the hours, suffer through the bad days and actually go out there and race your bike.

[445
220587,49,48,635,82
post-906573","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cycling","tag-2026-road-worlds","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-cycling","tag-sports
["GET
