(Government of B.C.)<\/p>\n<p>Neither road connection could be completed and opened until sections of the old bridge were demolished, as certain segments of that structure physically stood in the way of the footprints for the new ramps.<\/p>\n<p>For the same reason, the shared pedestrian and cycling pathway along the west side of the new bridge is not expected to open until later this fall.<\/p>\n<p>As of this month, a substantial portion of the 1937-built Pattullo Bridge has already been demolished, particularly the sections over land in New Westminster and Surrey. The crossing permanently closed to vehicle traffic in February 2026.
