A potent, early-season nor’easter<\/a> developing off the U.S. East Coast will bring some foul weather to portions of Atlantic Canada this weekend into early next week.<\/p>\n

The system will hit the Northeast states the hardest with high winds, heavy rainfall, and coastal flooding. Travel delays are likely at major hubs throughout the region.<\/p>\n

A major nor’easter in the works<\/p>\n

Millions of people from North Carolina to Nova Scotia are in line for unsettled weather over the next few days as an early-season nor’easter develops off the eastern seaboard.<\/p>\n

The system brought coastal flooding to North Carolina’s Outer Banks on Thursday. We’ll see the low-pressure system strengthen into Friday as it moves toward New England.<\/p>\n

Strong winds will whip up rough surf, dangerous rip currents<\/a>, and coastal flooding. Heavy rain is likely up and down the Interstate 95 corridor. The hardest-hit areas will see 50-75+ mm of rain<\/a> between Friday and Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Northeast rainfall through Tuesday<\/p>\n

A centre of high pressure over Quebec will force the system to slow down or stall, prolonging the high winds and heavy rainfall over the region. Expect flight delays<\/a> in New York and Boston due to wind and visibility, as well as slow and slick travel on area highways.<\/p>\n

Nova Scotia next in line for impacts<\/p>\n

Clouds will move into the Maritimes on Friday, with gloomy conditions sticking around into early next week.<\/p>\n

Bands of rain will rotate into southern Nova Scotia as early as Saturday morning. Expect several bursts of showers to move through the Maritimes as this nor’easter meanders off New England.<\/p>\n

Gusty winds as high as 60 km\/h are possible in coastal Nova Scotia, which may lead to coastal flooding in some areas.<\/p>\n
