What\u2019s Happening?<\/p>\n

Whatever you think about NASCAR 26 mods, nothing about this should end with somebody\u2019s home address.<\/p>\n

DLBTV creator Dustin<\/a> says he was doxxed, threatened, and subjected to a massive wave of harassment after posting videos about NASCAR 26 mods.<\/p>\n

Dustin says his home address and phone number were leaked, one of his admins was also targeted, and he filed a police report over the threats.<\/p>\n

Fellow NASCAR gaming creator Clabel<\/a> says the situation left him \u201cembarrassed and disgusted\u201d to be part of the NASCAR gaming community.<\/p>\n

Dustin says his address and phone number were first posted in his Discord before spreading elsewhere. One of his admins was targeted, too, including threats involving that admin\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

Dustin plays one of the actual harassing voicemails in the video. The caller blames him for supposedly getting the NASCAR 26 mods removed and tells him that things are going to get \u201cpretty fucking ugly\u201d if he keeps posting about them.<\/p>\n

Dustin says he turned the voicemail, messages, Discord information, and everything else he had over to the police. He also says police placed him on what he calls a \u201cno-swat list,\u201d meaning they would contact him if somebody tried to trigger an emergency response at his address.<\/p>\n

And this was not just one guy leaving one voicemail. Dustin says he received hundreds, potentially thousands, of abusive messages, including comments encouraging self-harm and people celebrating the fact that his personal information had been leaked. His video shows examples of the backlash, along with an attempted Steam login from Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n

Things got bad enough that Dustin says he called his parents, who are nearing 60, and warned them about what was happening in case strangers started calling them too.<\/p>\n

Clabel talked about the situation during the opening minutes of his September 24 livestream<\/a>. Dustin had contacted him while everything was unfolding the night before, and Clabel was not pretending he agreed with everything Dustin did.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think you should have made those videos,\u201d Clabel said he told him. \u201cBut this doesn\u2019t mean he should be allowed to get fucking harassed.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can think the mod should have stayed under wraps, and you can think Dustin made the wrong call putting it on YouTube. Clabel himself does. None of that is a permission slip to dox the guy.<\/p>\n

Clabel made the same point publicly on X<\/a>, writing that the situation was the first time he had ever felt \u201cembarrassed and disgusted\u201d to be part of the NASCAR gaming community. In a follow-up post<\/a>, he said he had talked with Dustin at length and still believed the videos did not need to be made, but that \u201cit doesn\u2019t excuse anything that\u2019s happened to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last night was the first time I’ve ever felt embarrassed and disgusted to be apart of the NASCAR gaming community. To harass, dox, and send death threats to someone just because they made videos on about a mod is absolutely disgusting, and I wish Dustin and his family the best.<\/p>\n

Dustin replied<\/a> simply: \u201cLove you bro \u2764\ufe0f\u201d<\/p>\n

How Did We Get Here?<\/p>\n

This whole thing started the way a lot of video game mods start: somebody got curious!<\/p>\n

On September 17, a user named Jia Enn showed up on the UE Viewer forums<\/a> trying to extract car models from NASCAR 26. They had already identified and parsed the game\u2019s IRM files using FModel. The problem was UE Viewer, which was throwing a \u201cWrong package tag (00000000)\u201d error when they tried to open them.<\/p>\n

That detail is actually important here, as NASCAR 26 runs on Unreal Engine 5.7, while those IRM files use iRacing\u2019s own mesh format. This was not somebody clicking around a random folder looking for JPEGs. This is what it looks like when people are already figuring out how a game is put together.<\/p>\n

Later that day, forum moderator spiritovod opened a dedicated NASCAR 26 thread<\/a> and confirmed that a specific UE Viewer build already supported most of the game, including those IRM meshes.<\/p>\n

Six days later, people were not just pulling things out of NASCAR 26, they were putting custom paint schemes back in. By September 23, users on the NASCARVideoGame subreddit<\/a> were trying to track down the program people were using to do it.<\/p>\n

The name eventually surfaced: NASCAR 26 Editor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Getting it was another matter, though. One user said the download was private<\/a>, and by the next day another said the Discord was no longer accepting invites and that people were \u201cgatekeeping the tools\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dustin was also making videos about the mods as all of this was unfolding.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Not long after that, people started saying the method no longer worked. One Reddit user said it had been \u201cpatched\u201d<\/a>, while the original poster was relieved they had not updated their game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And Dustin just became the guy people blamed.<\/p>\n

Did Dustin Actually Get the Mod Patched?<\/p>\n

Dustin says he and other creators were already operating under the assumption that this thing was going away before he ever uploaded the video, and Clabel goes even further. He says he had access to the mod before Dustin did, and that iRacing was already aware of it.<\/p>\n

Both make the same obvious point about the timeline. Dustin says the patch landed roughly two hours after his video, while the official September 23 notes show a cross-platform update already live on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. So, no, iRacing likely did not discover a YouTube video, figure out what it was doing, build a patch, test it, submit a cross-platform update, and get it onto consoles two hours later.<\/p>\n

Those September 23 patch notes<\/a> do not say anything about mods, custom paint schemes, or file validation. They list fixes for driver cinematics, multiplayer setup options, worn parts, repairs, and several Career\/UI issues.<\/p>\n

Also, game updates break mods, people. Change one thing, including something as simple as the version number, and it can cause mods, add-ons, plugins, whatever, to completely break on your game. Dustin and Clabel both make that point.<\/p>\n

That does not mean iRacing didn\u2019t intentionally shut this one down, as there is an extremely obvious reason they might care. iRacing sells paint schemes. They\u2019re a major part of NASCAR 26\u2019s post-launch DLC.<\/p>\n

The official September DLC pack<\/a> includes 40 paint schemes, and the Season Pass includes 200+<\/a>. If players can import whatever schemes they want themselves, you do not need an MBA to see where those two things conflict.<\/p>\n

That could explain why iRacing would want to stop it, sure, but it does not prove at all that they did.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou Can\u2019t Break My Smile\u201d<\/p>\n

Near the end of his video, Dustin finally turns on his facecam.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t break my smile,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m unbreakable at this point, man.\u201d<\/p>\n
