If there’s one thing guaranteed to turn the internet into a room full of amateur detectives, it’s a new Taylor Swift track. Make that four and they go full-blown CSI.

The pop star dropped The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, the extended version of her 2025 album that includes four new tracks.

It’s part of a broader trend of pop artists releasing an extension of their album as a deluxe, with experts speculating it is done to boost streaming revenue, or sell more units as physical media makes a comeback. Artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Zara Larsson and Charli XCX have all done the same.

Swift says the new tracks came together after she went to Sweden to celebrate the success of The Life of a Showgirl with collaborators Max Martin and Shellback.

All four songs have since charted in the Top 10 on Apple Music but have been receiving mixed reviews, with some Swifties expressing letdown over the star’s output.

“As a Swift fan, I find the four new songs quite disappointing,” one fan wrote on X.

“I guess this era isn’t really just for me,” another wrote on Instagram. “NO ITS SO SO GOOD,” a third commented.

We scrubbed through the internet to find out what fans are thinking. Shall we dive into the rumour mill? Let’s go track by track.

Patient Zero

This is the lead single, she announced the other day on Instagram.

On first listen, fans think this one puts Swift in the role of “patient zero,” and that she seems to be talking to an ex’s new partner, singing: “I’ve been there. Felt the reeling, done the healing,” and, “If he’s killing you, I see you. I was patient zero.”

Some speculate it could be Sofie Turner and Joe Jonas, who Taylor Swift also dated way back when. But fear not: Swift herself confirmed the meaning to Capital FM radio Friday.

“I was hanging out with a bunch of friends, and one of my friends told us that she had been reached out to by the new girlfriend of an ex of hers, asking for guidance on if she had had the same experiences with this guy that this new girlfriend was having,” Swift told the station.

“And everyone in our group just immediately started saying like, ‘Oh, I’ve been through that too,’ and telling the stories of when this kind of reach-out had happened for them.”

A music video for the song will air at this weekend’s MTV VMAs, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.

Cleveland!

It doesn’t require much decoding to decipher the subject of this song as Swift’s husband Travis Kelce. The two got married at Madison Square Garden earlier this year. Fans think she’s speaking to her critics in this one.

“He already took me to Cleveland and showed me The Heights,” she pens. “And now I’m wearing white, so hate all you like this is the love of my life.”

Its simplistic lyrics have Swifties spinning, some upset with her output.

“Cleveland … we need to talk,” one user wrote on X. Others are coming to her defence. “Cleveland is corny and THANK GOD IT IS!!!!!!” wrote another.

Pink Clouding

This song seems to be a lyrical apology for being a “liar” in a previous relationship.

“Years later, I still wonder how to tell you sorry,” Swift sings.

Many fans are theorizing it’s a message to Tom Hiddleston because of its apparent callbacks to songs from her catalogue like Getaway Car, which fans also think is about Hiddleston. The two were briefly coupled up in 2016.

“Having a Taylor Swift song about Tom Hiddleston in the big 2026 feels like sleeping with a cold pillow,” one user wrote. “Didn’t expect a hiddleswift apology in the year of 2026 i love her bad,” wrote another.

Babylon

Thing is, even Swifties can’t pin down exactly what this one is about.

“Am I stupid what is she trying to say in Babylon,” one fan wrote on X. “I have no idea what Taylor Swift is singing about in Babylon, but it’s my favourite movie of the year,” wrote another.

A look at the lyrics tells you it’s about a person who left their small town in Virginia, having regrets at a casino and on a train.

“You never knew that it was Babylon ’til it was gone,” Swift writes, leading some to believe it’s a message about nostalgia.
