Government’s Transportation Investment Corporation (TIC) recently issued an in-depth construction advisory detailing the scope of major SkyTrain construction work to be done over the next 2.5 months. The fall 2026 advisory is broken down into three major sections: 138th Street to 164th Street, 164th Street to 184th Street, and 184th Street to 203rd Street.

“This quarterly advisory has information about what to expect along the project corridor including current and upcoming SkyTrain construction,” notes a release from TIC. “You will find updates on key activities planned from September 2026 through November 2026.”

The full construction advisory has detailed information on construction hours, anticipated impacts, and current and upcoming work in each area of the project.

“Neighbours and the travelling public can expect construction activity and traffic pattern changes throughout the project corridor.”

Basic construction hours across the project are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Most construction is scheduled to be finished up by 8 p.m. each day.

“Some work may need to take place outside regular hours to support overall project requirements and ensure activities can be completed safely and efficiently,” notes the TIC. “We will provide notice to surrounding residents and businesses with details when longer hours are required.”

Key construction activities across the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain corridor include: roadworks, station construction, utility relocation, guideway construction, power substation construction, and both track and systems installation.

IMPACTS

Residents and business owners along the entire route, drivers that pass through the area, and both cyclists and pedestrians can expect the following impacts.

There may be an increase in vibration near construction sites.

Drivers and cyclists will find single lane traffic in each direction on Fraser Highway, numerous lane closures, various short stoppages, and multiple traffic pattern changes through intersections. Road closures will occur on Fraser Highway from 138th Street to 203rd Street.

Access to some local businesses may change, but all will remain open. Signs will be put up to help customers find their way to the affected businesses.

Pedestrians may be re-routed around construction areas.

Cyclists may be asked to detour, re-route to multi-use paths, share the lane, or dismount, depending on construction activity.

Bus stops may be moved or closed in construction areas.

Pile driving for foundation construction will temporarily increase noise levels.

“To reduce impacts to traffic and businesses, some night work will occur. Current night work activities include utility relocations and installations, foundation construction, welding, guideway segment deliveries to the launching gantries, segment installation and beam lifts.”

138TH TO 164TH

The Surrey Sprinter will complete its section of the alignment in fall 2026. It will be disassembled between 138th Street and 140th Street. Removing the launching gantry will require traffic pattern changes.

Steel spans will be installed at the westernmost end of the new line. This will connect the track east of King George Station to the new SkyTrain extension.

The Fleetwood Flyer will complete its section of the guideway this fall. It will be disassembled near 152nd Street. This will also require traffic pattern changes.

B.C. Hydro will begin pulling cables through the underground duct bank between 156th Street and Green Timbers propulsion power substation.

Installation of systems and electrical equipment will begin for the propulsion power substations at both Green Timbers Station and Fleetwood Station.

164TH TO 184TH

Pacific Highway propulsion power substation construction at 176th and Fraser Highway is ongoing. New utility services and wall construction are now underway, while roof work is scheduled to commence in early October.

Construction of the remaining columns near 168th Street is ongoing.

The Clayton Clipper is travelling west towards Bakerview-166 Street Station. Installation of large guideway beams is taking place east of Highway 15. This work occurs at night and requires single lane alternating traffic.

A lot of utility work to prepare for roadway restoration on both sides of Fraser Highway will be done this fall. This will require access changes and turn restrictions when crossing intersections and driveways.

Roadway restoration will be done in spots where guideway construction is completed. This will include paving multi-use pathways, sidewalks, and driveway access.

184TH TO 203RD

Column construction for the guideway will continue along the corridor east of Highway 10.

Roadway restoration will continue where guideway and utility construction is complete, including paving multi-use pathways, sidewalks and driveway accesses.

Track installation west of 203 Street will begin in late September. This includes delivering rail, lifting and installing rail on the elevated guideway, welding, grinding, and pouring concrete.

For more info, check out the full advisory on surreylangleyskytrain.gov.bc.ca.

TIC notes the construction planned for the fall is subject to change.
