{"id":909741,"date":"2026-09-26T00:48:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-26T00:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/909741\/"},"modified":"2026-09-26T00:48:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-26T00:48:13","slug":"alcaraz-wins-doubles-match-with-mensik-to-give-team-europe-3-1-lead-after-opening-day-of-laver-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/909741\/","title":{"rendered":"Alcaraz wins doubles match with Mensik to give Team Europe 3-1 lead after opening day of Laver Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">LONDON (AP) \u2014 Carlos Alcaraz and doubles partner Jakub Mensik gave Team Europe a 3-1 lead over Team World after the opening day of the Laver Cup on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Alcaraz and Mensik beat Alexander Bublik and Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the final match of the day at the O2 Arena.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Rafael Jodar had broken a 1-1 deadlock after the day session by defeating Bublik 6-2, 6-3 in the evening\u2019s singles match.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the day session, Brandon Nakashima made the most of his Laver Cup debut by beating Mensik 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 16th-ranked Nakashima was a late addition to Andre Agassi\u2019s roster after U.S. Open runner-up Ben Shelton withdrew last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the event\u2019s opener, Casper Ruud beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-8 to give Europe an early lead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">There are four matches per day in the three-day event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Wins are worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three points on Sunday.
