The Edmonton Elks won a true offensive showcase on Saturday night, defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37-35 in overtime. At the heart of this spectacular victory was a historic performance by kicker Vincent Blanchard.

Blanchard completely dominated the game from the field goal line. He made nine field goals, setting a new Canadian Football League record. Prior to this, the CFL record was eight field goals in a single game, a mark that had been achieved five times.

The Edmonton kicker was directly responsible for 28 of his team’s 37 points, also adding a one-point conversion to his impressive tally.

The Elks ultimately needed overtime to secure the victory. Joshua Cephus then ended the suspense by converting a two-point conversion, allowing Edmonton to walk away with the two points in the standings.

This victory allows the Elks, now with an 11-4 record, to continue their excellent season. For Hamilton, the result is much harder to swallow: with a 4-11 record and their fifth consecutive loss, the Tiger-Cats are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Cody Fajardo completed 32 of 47 passes for 298 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. Justin Rankin added 74 yards on 11 carries, while Zach Mathis finished with 75 yards on five receptions.

Calgary Refuses to Give Up

In the other game of the night, the Calgary Stampeders kept their playoff hopes alive with a 45-31 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks.

Vernon Adams Jr. delivered a solid performance with 422 passing yards and three touchdowns, without an interception. Deonta McMahon also had a productive night with two touchdowns.

Calgary now has a 7-8 record, while Ottawa remains winless this season with 14 losses in as many games.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson still racked up 418 passing yards and two touchdowns, but his efforts weren’t enough to help the Rouge et Noir secure their first win of the season.

Rene Paredes, for his part, made three field goals—including kicks of 40, 49, and 43 yards—and converted all five of his extra points.
