reported <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/quebec-elections\/elections-quebec-polling-staff-avoid-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u00c9lections Qu\u00e9bec was telling polling staff to only speak French<\/a> with voters unless they have a right to English education or are indigenous, it gave Aaron Rand a feeling of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back in 2019, the CJAD broadcaster and co-host of The Corner Booth caused a stir when he <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/opinion\/columnists\/brownstein-historic-quebec-anglos-making-statement-on-t-shirts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">created the Historic Quebec Anglo T-shirt<\/a> in response to the CAQ government saying anglos would only have English-language access to provincial government services provided they were part of the \u201chistoric English community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A year later, <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/opinion\/columnists\/brownstein-aaron-rand-gives-oqlf-a-piece-of-his-mind-with-bonjour-hi-t-shirts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">he targeted the OQLF over their Bonjour-Hi flap<\/a> with another T-shirt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With anglophones feeling under fire once more, Rand decided to bring back the Historic Quebec Anglo shirts with Quebecers heading to the polls on Oct. 5. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think there\u2019s real anger and frustration over this, not just among anglos, but among most Quebecers who see this as an unnecessary and insulting move,\u201d Rand said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the controversy stemming from the <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/quebec-elections\/quebec-elections-french-mailouts-appeal-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">voter information card controversy<\/a>, and now the directive by \u00c9lections Qu\u00e9bec to polling workers to speak French-only unless you can prove you are entitled to service in English as an \u2018historic anglo,\u2019 it brought back memories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSimon-Jolin Barrette, who was then the Immigration minister and responsible for the language file, said a new language policy would make all ministries and organizations offer public services almost entirely in French, but that nothing would change for the \u2018historic English minority,\u2019 who would always be able to get every service in their own language.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat was the first time the phrase had come up from what I can remember before Bill 96 was introduced, and we all know how things have gone since then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rand said on Instagram a new batch of Historic Quebec Anglo shirts will be available next
