The reigning series champion led 235 of 267 laps, swept both stages, posted the fastest lap of the race and earned the maximum 76 points available.

The victory was Larson’s second win of the season, his fourth career Cup Series triumph at Kansas Speedway and the 34th of his NASCAR Cup career.

“That was such a good day,” Larson said. “I didn’t think that we would have a max-points type of day, so I’m just thrilled.”

Starting on the outside of the front row after qualifying was canceled by weather, Larson wasted little time asserting control. The driver of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet grabbed the lead on the opening lap and immediately built a comfortable advantage over Denny Hamlin and the rest of the field.

The only serious challenge to Larson’s dominance came during the closing stages when Briscoe, driving the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, tracked him down during a lengthy green-flag run. Briscoe finally completed the pass for the lead with 29 laps remaining, appearing poised to score a crucial victory for his fading championship hopes.

Instead, Larson patiently regrouped.

“I really didn’t think that I could win after Briscoe got by,” Larson admitted. “I thought he was just going to drive away. I just tried to settle in, stay patient and not make a mistake.”

As Briscoe’s car became increasingly loose in traffic, Larson began chopping away at the lead. With just a handful of laps remaining, he mounted one final charge, reclaimed the top spot and drove away to secure the win by 0.565 seconds over Cindric.

“I think it’s easier to be the hunter rather than the hunted,” Larson said. “I could see he was starting to struggle, and we were able to capitalize.”

The victory further strengthened Larson’s position atop the championship standings. With six races remaining in the Chase, he now holds a 26-point advantage over Hamlin, who finished third after spending much of the afternoon trying to keep pace with Larson’s Chevrolet.

“Winning. That’s the only difference,” Hamlin said when asked what kept the day from being exceptional. “We just didn’t quite have it today.”

While Larson celebrated in Victory Lane, Cindric was left wondering what might have been. The Team Penske driver spent much of the race lurking just behind the leaders and found speed on the final run. He closed substantially on the Larson-Briscoe battle but ran out of laps before mounting a challenge.

“When you only lose by half a second, I wish I would have had at least a shot at it,” Cindric said after finishing second. “I felt like we had a car that could have won today.”

Briscoe faded to fourth after his handling deteriorated over the final run, a devastating blow to his title hopes. The Indiana driver entered Kansas already facing a significant points deficit and acknowledged afterward that his championship outlook has grown increasingly difficult.

“It felt like I had a win there to stay in contention for a championship,” Briscoe said. “Now you’re probably going to have to win five of the next six races.”

The victory also served as a fitting celebration for Hendrick Motorsports and Hendrick Automotive Group, which is marking its 50th anniversary. Larson repeatedly praised team owner Rick Hendrick, crew chief Cliff Daniels and a pit crew that consistently won the race off pit road throughout the afternoon.

“It takes a team,” Larson said. “Huge thank you to everybody at Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet. We’re glad to do this one for all the employees at Hendrick.”

Larson’s teammates also delivered solid results. William Byron finished seventh and Chase Elliott came home eighth, giving Hendrick Motorsports three cars inside the top 10.

For Larson, however, the biggest takeaway wasn’t simply another trophy. After enduring a winless stretch that lasted 51 races before breaking through earlier this month, the No. 5 team now appears to be peaking just as the championship battle enters its most important stretch.

“We’ve done a great job of executing in these first four races,” Larson said. “We still have six more to execute at a high level.”

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Kyle Larson spent much of Sunday making the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway…

[446
49,48,634,82
post-912415","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nascar","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-nascar","tag-sports
["GET
