That’s what Prince Edward Island’s premier hopes to find out after Canada’s western provinces and territories decided to stick to daylight time this fall.

Rob Lantz said he’s spoken with his counterparts in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick who agree that if one province were to keep the clocks the same year-round, they all should.

He intends to survey Islanders to gauge their thoughts about moving away from twice annual time changes.

“We’ll take the pulse of Islanders to see how they feel about it,” Lantz said.

“Then I’ll continue the conversation with my Maritime colleagues and, if all goes well, we could move forward together.”

WATCH | No more ‘fall back’ or ‘spring forward’? P.E.I. premier says he’ll consider it

Canada’s western provinces and territories will be staying on daylight time this year, while most of the rest of the country falls back an hour to standard time. P.E.I. Premier Rob Lantz plans to poll Islanders on whether the this province should follow the West’s lead. As CBC’s Steve Bruce found out, opinions here are mixed.

Regions in Canada that are staying with daylight time will keep their clocks as they are later this year. P.E.I. will be among those that fall back one hour this fall, before the clocks move an hour ahead again in March.

Staying with daylight time in P.E.I. would bring darker bus pickup times, with the sun rising as late as 8:55 a.m.

Some researchers say that while adjusting to the time change twice annually doesn’t bode well for sleep and health, neither do the dark winter mornings that would come as a result of permanent daylight time — so the better option may be permanent standard time.

On P.E.I., that would mean some sunrises as early as 4:20 a.m.

Andy Doran, president of the P.E.I. Teachers’ Federation, said a big concern is dark mornings bringing more risks as students get on and off school buses.

“That’s the main concern for the teachers’ federation is that the kids’ safety is our No. 1 priority,” he said.

“I hope they take a lot of consideration before they make the decision.”

Danya Lisi said the biannual clock change “doesn’t make a big difference” and that her children are able to adapt to it easily.

“I think it takes a couple of days and they get used to it,” she said.

“I think it makes sense for us to continue how we’ve been doing it. For us, we don’t find it makes a big deal, so we think keeping it how it is has been fine.”

Erin Arsenault, however, thinks it’s time to make the switch, saying she finds the status quo “disruptive to everyone’s schedule, especially as a parent.”

Canada’s western provinces and territories have decided to stick with daylight time this fall, meaning they won’t turn their clocks back an hour on Nov. 1. If you don’t start prepping a couple weeks in advance to train them to go to bed an hour earlier or get up an hour later, then you’re kind of dealing with it for the next two to three weeks.”

Lantz hasn’t said when he plans to ask Islanders for their opinions on a possible change.

Prince Edward Island, and other regions staying with the current normal, will see clocks fall back on Nov. 1.

Listen to this article Estimated 3 minutes The audio version of this article is generated by AI-based technology.…

[22
49,48,295,66
post-912977","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-environment","tag-science
["GET
