Things are heating up in the Canadian Football League with four weeks remaining in the regular season.

With just four weeks left in the CFL regular season, the league’s intensity is ramping up.

That was evident when the B.C. Lions hosted the Montreal Alouettes after Labour Day weekend, and the game featured plenty of emotion between B.C. defensive end Mathieu Betts and Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander. The heated exchange between the two players ultimately resulted in multiple suspensions and fines.

Former Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback and Plaza of Honour member Darian Durant, however, has no problem with the emotion spilling onto the field. Durant said he enjoys seeing two of the CFL’s top players going head-to-head and believes it adds another element to the game.

“I love it. You’re talking about two of the top guys at their positions in the league going at it.”

Durant also pointed out that it’s rare to see quarterbacks show that type of emotion and intensity during a game.

“You rarely see quarterbacks with this type of fight, with this type of fire in them.”

While Durant appreciates the emotion and rivalries, he admitted the way players handle those exchanges is different from what he experienced during his playing days.

Durant said players from his era typically kept the verbal battles on the field and settled their differences between the lines.

“I come from an era where we just kept it on the field and we would just talk it out.”

Still, Durant believes the growing rivalries and emotional exchanges are good for the CFL.

“I love seeing guys heated and going at it and having these type of rivalries. I think it just adds to the game.”

You can hear Double Talk with Darian Durant Mondays on the SportsCage.
