\n Will Reeve is stepping into a public role his famous parents once knew well\u2014this time with his own diagnosis. In an interview with People<\/a>, the 34-year-old ABC News national correspondent reveals he was diagnosed this spring with testicular cancer that had spread to lymph nodes in his abdomen, and that he’s now cancer-free as of a Sept. 8 checkup. Reeve, the son of Christopher and Dana Reeve, says he noticed a tender lump in April, put it off, and only got checked after his wife of three months, event planner Amanda Dubin, pushed for an ultrasound. “We talk about ‘in sickness and in health,” he says. “We got an early test of our vows, just a few months in.” \n <\/p>\n


\n What followed: an orchiectomy (the removal of the cancerous testicle) in May, a major lymph-node surgery in June, and two rounds of chemotherapy that he juggled with his Good Morning America duties. Reeve says his parents’ example of turning hardship into advocacy inspired him to go public, in part to nudge other men to pay attention to changes in their bodies and seek care quickly. “I have felt so loved and supported and rooted for by family, friends and strangers alike for my entire life,” he says. “And that’s a big part of why I wanted to speak about this. I’m going to be fine.” He describes the experience as “a heck of a chapter” and says it’s reshaped how intentionally he lives.
