\n\t\u201cThe Little Prince<\/a>\u201d is getting a new big-screen treatment with \u201cThe Imitation Game\u201d director Morten Tyldum set to helm an ambitious live-action feature inspired by the life of French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry. <\/p>\n

\n\tSimon Beaufoy, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of \u201cSlumdog Millionaire,\u201d is writing the script for the film which is being developed with Le Petit Prince Groupe, guardian of the Saint-Exup\u00e9ry estate. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe big-scale family adventure project hails from Aton Soumache, the well-known French producer behind Mark Osborne\u2019s 2015 animated feature \u201cThe Little Prince.\u201d The latter world premiered at Cannes and grossed close to $100 million worldwide, as well as won the C\u00e9sar for best animated film and the BAFTA Children\u2019s Award for best feature film.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis new project will pull elements from French comic book artist and filmmaker Joann Sfar\u2019s acclaimed graphic adaptation of \u201cThe Little Prince,\u201d portraying the bond between the Little Prince and the Aviator. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe film will blend Saint-Exup\u00e9ry\u2019s real-life story as a pioneering aviator and writer with the fantastical world of \u201cThe Little Prince.\u201d Saint-Exup\u00e9ry\u2019s story will unfold in live action, while the Little Prince will be created using visual effects. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI see it as a very cinematic and epic story, one that gives us a wonderful opportunity to ask big questions,\u201d Tyldum said. \u201cThis is a story about love, grief and loss. It\u2019s about hope, following your heart\u2019s desire and seeing life as a big adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFirst published in 1943, \u201cThe Little Prince\u201d has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide and has been translated into some 600 languages and dialects.<\/p>\n

\n\tBeaufoy, whose credits also include \u201cThe Full Monty\u201d and \u201cThe Hunger Games: Catching Fire,\u201d described adapting the book as both daunting and exhilarating. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018The Little Prince\u2019 is the most extraordinary text because it never goes out of fashion. It talks to the child in every human being,\u201d Beaufoy said. \u201cEverybody relates to that small child, who is the voice of truth that you sometimes don\u2019t even want to hear.\u201d He added that turning such a revered work into a broader cinematic canvas was \u201ca thrilling responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSfar, who worked with the Saint-Exup\u00e9ry family on his graphic adaptation roughly 15 years ago, said the new film grew out of that longstanding relationship.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Saint Exup\u00e9ry family, alongside whom I created \u2018The Little Prince\u2019 comic book 15 years ago, to develop the concept of this unique film,\u201d Sfar said. \u201cWith Simon Beaufoy writing it and Morten Tyldum directing it, I couldn\u2019t have dreamed of a better team to bring this wonderful universe to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSoumache, who is producing the film with Paul Trijbits via their company Magical Society, said, \u201cThis film is not simply an adaptation, but a celebration of \u2018The Little Prince,\u2019 of its timeless story and its enduring spirit.\u201d \u201cCombining \u2018The Little Prince,\u2019 which has touched people young and old, with the adventurous, genius, passionate explorer and pilot Saint Exup\u00e9ry is a magical mix,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n

\n\tTrijbits, who runs Magical Society\u2019s London office, previously executive produced Netflix family series \u201cThe Letter for the King\u201d and Disney\u2019s \u201cSaving Mr. Banks,\u201d along with films including Paul Greengrass\u2019 \u201cBloody Sunday,\u201d Andrea Arnold\u2019s \u201cFish Tank\u201d and Cary Fukunaga\u2019s \u201cJane Eyre.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSophie Kopaczynski, CEO of Le Petit Prince Groupe, said the aim was to honor Saint-Exup\u00e9ry\u2019s legacy while creating a film with broad international appeal.<\/p>\n
