As the 2026 season continues, F1.com assesses how the team mate head-to-heads have stacked up so far. Who from each of the 11 pairings on the grid has had the upper hand in Qualifying and\/or race trim across the campaign? Let\u2019s take a look at the numbers\u2026<\/p>\n
Mercedes<\/p>\n
Qualifying: Russell 7-8 Antonelli
Race: Russell 5-10 Antonelli<\/p>\n
Perhaps unsurprisingly given his hold on the top spot in the Drivers\u2019 Championship, Kimi Antonelli<\/a> has also taken the lead when it comes to the head-to-head statistics at Mercedes<\/a>. The Italian has beaten George Russell<\/a> in Qualifying eight times out of 15, with six of those occasions seeing him take pole position.<\/p>\n The numbers are similar in the race day figures, Antonelli having crossed the line ahead of Russell at 10 Grands Prix \u2013 and winning at eight of them. Russell on the other hand has experienced marginally more bad luck, recording two DNFs in comparison to one for Antonelli.<\/p>\n Russell closed the gap last weekend in Baku<\/a>, taking pole position and his first victory since Austria in June to close the gap to Antonelli in the drivers’ standings<\/a> to 66 points.<\/p>\n Ferrari<\/p>\n Qualifying: Leclerc 8-7 Hamilton Over at Ferrari<\/a>, there is little to choose between Charles Leclerc<\/a> and Lewis Hamilton<\/a> on both counts. Leclerc just edged ahead of Hamilton on Qualifying stats after his front row start in Baku, while his fourth-place finish in the race means he has closed on his team mate in race head-to-heads.<\/p>\n McLaren<\/p>\n Qualifying: Norris 9-6 Piastri In the Qualifying statistics between Lando Norris<\/a> and Oscar Piastri<\/a>, Norris leads the way with nine better results. This includes his pole positions at the Hungarian, Dutch and Spanish Grands Prix.<\/p>\n The McLaren<\/a> pair aren’t too far apart in race day figures, although Norris has recorded three DNFs, while Piastri has one to his name as well as a DNS from the season opener in Australia (not including the Chinese Grand Prix where both recorded a DNS). Norris is responsible for the squad’s two victories so far at the Hungaroring and Zandvoort.<\/p>\n Red Bull<\/p>\n Qualifying: Verstappen 8-4 Hadjar Isack Hadjar<\/a> faced the difficult task of stepping up as Max Verstappen<\/a>\u2019s new team mate at Red Bull<\/a> in 2026 \u2013 and while he has enjoyed a solid start to the campaign, it is the Dutchman that leads the way in the statistics.<\/p>\n Verstappen has outqualified his team mate on eight occasions, as well as finishing ahead on race day nine times. The four-time World Champion recorded retirements at the other three events, one more DNF than the two experienced by Hadjar.<\/p>\n The Frenchman was unexpectedly replaced<\/a> by Racing Bulls<\/a>‘ Liam Lawson<\/a> for the Dutch Grand Prix after sustaining a wrist injury, and while Verstappen narrowly beat the New Zealander in Qualifying, he suffered a massive crash at the start of the race to mark his fourth DNF of the season.<\/p>\n Lawson brought it home in seventh place, scoring points on his first appearance for the team since he was demoted shortly into the 2025 season, and scored points again in Madrid before Hadjar’s return in Baku.<\/p>\n It was a strong comeback for Hadjar, who beat Verstappen in qualifying before finishing behind his more experienced team mate in the race to claim his second podium of the season.<\/p>\n Racing Bulls<\/p>\n Qualifying: Lawson 7-5 Lindblad The first half of the season has been strong for Racing Bulls, with both drivers performing well. However, it is Lawson who has taken the lead in the head-to-heads, albeit narrowly in Qualifying form \u2013 the New Zealander holding the edge by sevent to five over Arvid Lindblad<\/a>.<\/p>\n Lawson has finished ahead of Lindblad at eight out of the 12 Grands Prix they have contested for Racing Bulls, though the gap between the duo \u2013 who have recorded five double points finishes so far \u2013 has often been small. There has been one retirement so far for Lawson (in Miami), while Lindblad did not start in Canada due to a clutch issue.<\/p>\n Their run of seven rounds with at least one driver in the top 10 came to an end in Zandvoort, where reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda stepped in for Lawson. The Japanese racer had never driven the 2026 cars before, making it even more impressive that he came close to scoring as he improved from P12 on the grid \u2013 two positions behind Lindblad \u2013 to P11.<\/p>\n Tsunoda remained with the team in Monza and did add a point to their tally, with Lindblad also returning to the top 10 in what proved a strong weekend for the team.<\/p>\n Lindblad and the returning Lawson collided in Baku last time out, before the former went on to finish P7 and claim his 10th points finish of the season during an impressive rookie campaign.<\/p>\n Alpine<\/p>\n Qualifying: Gasly 12-3 Colapinto Pierre Gasly<\/a> has been dominant in the Qualifying statistics at Alpine<\/a>, having beaten Franco Colapinto<\/a> by 12 to three.<\/p>\n He even grabbed his maiden pole position<\/a> at Monza, completely on merit in a dry session as the upgraded Alpine took the fight to the top teams.<\/p>\n The picture is a little more even on race day, where Gasly\u2019s lead is now nine over Colapinto\u2019s five. The French driver could not back up his pole position at Monza with a podium, but did come home seventh with his team mate also scoring in ninth.<\/p>\n The pair were on course for a double points finish in Baku, but a crash between the pair after a Safety Car restart, with Colapinto handed a five-place grid penalty, meant a double DNF.<\/p>\n Haas<\/p>\n Qualifying: Bearman 10-5 Ocon At Haas<\/a>, Ollie Bearman<\/a> has qualified ahead of Esteban Ocon<\/a> on 10 occasions. The Briton\u2019s best Saturday result so far was a P10 in China, and also last time out in Baku.<\/p>\n Bearman has the edge in Grand Prix finishes too, beating Ocon by eight to six. In terms of reliability, Bearman has suffered four DNFs, with Ocon experiencing his first of the year in Zandvoort as neither were able to finish the race.<\/p>\n Ocon achieved his best result of the season with P8 in Azerbaijan, as Bearman’s P9 meant Haas secured its first double points finsh of the season.<\/p>\n Audi<\/p>\n Qualifying: Hulkenberg 7-8 Bortoleto Audi<\/a> drivers Nico Hulkenberg<\/a> and Gabriel Bortoleto<\/a> are almost evenly matched when it comes to Qualifying performances, with Bortoleto claiming their best starting position of P8 at the Belgian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n It is also Bortoleto who marginally has the better race day statistics, the Brazilian finishing ahead of Hulkenberg at eight of the 15 rounds so far. The younger driver has enjoyed better luck in terms of reliability; Bortoleto has crossed the line at every race barring China \u2013 where he failed to start \u2013 while Hulkenberg has suffered three DNFs along with a DNS in Australia.<\/p>\n Williams<\/p>\n Qualifying: Albon 5-10 Sainz It has been a tough campaign so far for Williams<\/a>, who remain down in P9 of the Teams\u2019 Championship. While there has not been much to celebrate, Carlos Sainz<\/a> might take heart from the fact that he has led the Qualifying head-to-head by 10 to five over Alex Albon<\/a>.<\/p>\n That does not quite tell the full story though, with Albon offering his team mate a tow in Monza to ensure Sainz made it to Q2, while the Spaniard lost a top-10 start in Baku due to a grid penalty.<\/p>\n Sainz also tops the Grand Prix figures, by nine to six. Points have been a rarity for the team, with the Spaniard recording three P9 finishes, and most recently a P10 in Baku with a heavily upgraded car, while Albon has a P8 and a P10 to his name.<\/p>\n Aston Martin<\/p>\n Qualifying: Alonso 13-2 Stroll Like Williams, Aston Martin<\/a> have endured a challenging 2026. Such were the squad\u2019s car issues that neither driver was able to finish the opening two rounds in Australia and China, while both also retired with reliability problems in Barcelona and Baku. However, substantial upgrades to the car and power unit have offered encouraging signs of progress.<\/p>\n In terms of the head-to-heads, Fernando Alonso<\/a> has outscored Lance Stroll<\/a> on both counts \u2013 albeit by a lesser extent on Sundays \u2013 and the Spaniard is also responsible for the team\u2019s three points as he finished P10 in Monaco and P9 in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n Cadillac<\/p>\n Qualifying: Perez 8-7 Bottas Cadillac<\/a> recruited the experienced pairing of Valtteri Bottas<\/a> and Sergio Perez<\/a> for the squad\u2019s maiden F1 season \u2013 and while the duo have often been fighting towards the rear of the pack, Perez got the better of Bottas in Baku and moved ahead on their Qualifying figures so far.<\/p>\n The Mexican also holds the advantage in the Grand Prix statistics, finishing ahead of Bottas on nine occasions.
