Luther Prep’s girls tennis team defeated Watertown 7-0 in a nonconference dual meet on Tuesday at the Brandt-Quirk tennis courts.

The Phoenix swept each of the singles matches and the top two doubles flights in straight sets. In the closest match of the day, Luther Prep’s Kirsi Foxen and Greta Brown outlasted Watertown’s Elyssa Garcia and Liliana Silva 6-1, 2-6, 10-7.

“Luther Prep is a really good team, fresh off winning another conference title,” Watertown girls tennis coach Andy Dobbins said.

“They showed that in this match, with talented players in the entire lineup. We put up a good fight, but had a hard time sustaining that success. I’m proud of our girls for how they have competed all season and the grit they have shown, despite some tough results. We have one more chance to compete together and see what we can accomplish.”

Watertown competes at the Hartford subsectional on Monday.
