A low spin driver\u2019s penetrating flight, reduced spin, and increased speed sounds fantastic to most golfers.\u00a0 The catch is squeezing the most, or even just enough, out of this style head is contingent on club speed, delivery, and the ability to consistently find the correct part of the face.\u00a0 As a mid-speed player, this was certainly my experience with the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver.\u00a0 But lets be honest, we all secretly want to try the LS models.<\/p>\n
Within Srixon\u2019s new ZXi RKT family, the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver model is engineered to prioritize distance and low spin.\u00a0 The ZXi RKT MAX driver is its maximum forgiveness option, while the standard ZXi RKT driver [review HERE<\/a>] is its all-around model.<\/p>\n Offered in 8\u00b0, 9\u00b0, and 10.5\u00b0 lofts with heaps of weight and hosel adjustability, I tested the 8\u00b0 version of the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver paired with the Mitsubishi Kai\u2019li Dark Waves White 60S shaft.\u00a0 With a mid-swing speed and bias towards forgiveness, as driver isn\u2019t a strength of my game, I usually fit into core and Max models.\u00a0 So, I was particularly curious to experience how the 8\u00b0 Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver would work (or not) for me.<\/p>\n Looks<\/p>\n The Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver is visually focused with intentional design elements showcasing its new technology.\u00a0 The sole is packed with delicate silver ZXi RKT branding, a dual weight system with a hint of red, angular designs, and tonal etching that give the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver a technical look without appearing cluttered.\u00a0 The deliberate use of gloss, satin, matte, paint, and etched finishes work together to draw the eye to the technological components of the club.<\/p>\n Like the sole, the face of the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver leverages graphic elements to call attention to the newly introduced RKT Face technology with its laser face milling and subtle silver branding.\u00a0 It has a striking resemblance to the Titleist GT 4 [review HERE<\/a>].<\/p>\n Standing over the ball, the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver presents a supremely uncomplicated and inspiring view.\u00a0 My biggest complaint about my gamer is its gloss crown, so I appreciate the matte carbon fiber crown that reduces glare.\u00a0 A small Srixon logo identifies the center of the face, while a small raised black half circle frames the back of the crown.\u00a0 Overall, the refined and subdued crown balances well with the more aggressive sole detailing.<\/p>\n Although I don\u2019t have the core or MAX models in hand, marketing materials indicate the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver is shorter front-to-back, deeper, and more pear-shaped than the other models.\u00a0 That said, all Srixon ZXi RKT driver models have a 460cc head, so with a face height of ~2.5\u201d and a crown measuring ~4.5\u201d front-to-back, the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver may be more compact than the other models, but the footprint felt less intimidating than smaller drivers in the low spin category like the Cobra DS Adapt LS [review HERE<\/a>], PING G440 LST [review HERE<\/a>], and Callaway Quantum TD [review HERE<\/a>].<\/p>\n The amount of RKT Face visible at address, especially with an 8\u00b0 head, made me less intimidated about getting the ball in the air given the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver\u2019s low launch characteristics and my clubhead speed topping out around 100mph. [See Price \/ Buy<\/a>]<\/p>\n Sound & Feel<\/p>\n Srixon introduced its \u201cACOUSTICORE\u201d structure with the ZXi RKT line it says uses \u201cAI-optimized internal rib structures, precisely tuned to refine the acoustic character of every ZXi RKT model.\u201d\u00a0 They clearly heard the\u00a0 feedback about the louder and higher pitched tones of some of its previous models, as the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver produces a unique thump that\u2019s much more a whack than a high pitched snap.\u00a0 The tone is muted and void of sharpness.\u00a0 Even heel and toe strikes, which I provided a healthy sample size of, produced a more refined but powerful whack with limited reverberation.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a long list of tech infused into the RKT Face, including VR-Titanium alloy, an I-Flex optimized face thickness pattern, a new multi flex rebound frame, and an updated variable roll design.\u00a0 While I didn\u2019t have an engineer with me to explain what that all means, I do know it made it feel like the ball shot off the face instantaneously.\u00a0 Although fast, that quickness made me feel like I lost some control over ball trajectory.\u00a0 With more use and a greater understanding how the ball reacted to slight variations in face contact, I felt more in control.<\/p>\n As I link sound and feel so closely, I was surprised by the disconnect I felt between the regulated sound of the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver and its more unconstrained feel.<\/p>\n Performance<\/p>\n I went to an indoor sim for my first Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver test session.\u00a0 I figured I\u2019d save a grounds crew the headache of replacing the grass from my worm burners.\u00a0 After a couple gloriously mighty swings yielding incredibly ugly results, my decision seemed correct.\u00a0 With 8\u00b0 of loft, a 10g weight in front, and a 4g weight in back, the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver came ready for speed and a piercing flight, but not me.\u00a0 In this standard setting, my trajectory was consistently low, especially on below center contact strikes.\u00a0 Center strikes were respectable, but higher strikes are where the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver wanted to come alive.<\/p>\n Still not getting my desired results, I cranked the adjustable hosel up 1.5\u00b0, moved the 10g weight to the back, the 4g weight up front, and let \u2018er rip.\u00a0 Suddenly, 65\u2019 \u2013 70\u2032 peak heights from the standard setting turned into high 80\u2032 peak heights.\u00a0 While not the ideal height or speed (which I attribute more to shaft profile), the increased trajectory and spin at a consistent ~2,550 RPM, started to add another 15 \u2013 25 yards to my carry numbers as center-high contact improved.\u00a0 There\u2019s still a ton more in there begging to get let out.<\/p>\n My usual trajectory is a slight draw and my miss a pull hook, so the slight fade bias of the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver helped me block out most of the left side.\u00a0 As I got a better feel for the optimal strike location, I started producing more fades and straight shots.\u00a0 However, off-center contact, especially low heel strikes, produced some embarrassingly low and spinny push slices up to 40 yards offline.<\/p>\n At the range, I could get in a groove with contact and produce those 80\u2019+ peak height straight shots and fades, but that consistency was difficult to replicate on course.\u00a0 Despite 99-100mph club head speeds, ball speeds never exceeded 145mph.\u00a0 The precision required by the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver stole 10mph+ of ball speed away from strikes that were slightly low or off-center.\u00a0 A consistent ~1.45 smash factor indicates with better contact there\u2019a a few more mph and 15-20 more yards to be squeezed out of the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver without additional effort. [See Price \/ Buy<\/a>]<\/p>\n Conclusion<\/p>\n If you didn\u2019t already, consider Srixon officially in the driver game.\u00a0 The Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver\u2019s striking looks, adjustability options, re-engineered chassis, and RKT Face make it a must try.\u00a0 While an 8\u00b0 head paired with a low flight shaft isn\u2019t a fit for my swing profile, the Srixon ZXi RKT LS driver is a wonderful club for an accurate higher swing speed player to dial in for speed and a controlled, low spinning, penetrating flight.\u00a0 For me, I\u2019m going to toss it on a high launch shaft to see what kind of beast I can unlock.
