{"id":915608,"date":"2026-09-30T18:20:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T18:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/915608\/"},"modified":"2026-09-30T18:20:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T18:20:20","slug":"one-in-four-employees-likely-have-undiagnosed-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/915608\/","title":{"rendered":"One in four employees likely have undiagnosed conditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Marc Robin, medical director with virtual care and telemedicine provider, Dialogue, says research indicates that one in four people walk around with undocumented medical issues which can lead later on to prolonged leaves of absence and more disability days, all of which are avoidable with preventative identification and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>About one in five to one in four Canadians \u201cdon\u2019t know they have hypertension; 20 per cent don\u2019t know they <a href=\"https:\/\/insurance-portal.ca\/article\/metabolic-syndrome-affects-one-in-four\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have diabetes<\/a>,\u201d he told those gathered for a webinar to discuss the company\u2019s findings and promote its new preventative health panel offering. \u201cThese are problems that become bigger and lead to employees having to leave the workforce or take sick days or be on disability days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problem, he adds, is that crafting a complete picture of a patient\u2019s health takes time \u2013 time that doctors often don\u2019t have, if the employee in question has a doctor at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreventative care is not often executed perfectly in the real world because it takes time and it\u2019s a little bit sophisticated if you want to personalize it and have it be meaningful,\u201d he told those gathered.<\/p>\n<p>He also notes that <a href=\"https:\/\/insurance-portal.ca\/article\/five-measures-to-mitigate-rising-medical-costs-in-employer-sponsored-group-plans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">benefits plans<\/a> tend to be reactive, addressing issues as they arise. \u201cThat\u2019s not a criticism. It is really a reflection on how the healthcare system operates currently,\u201d he says, noting also that 74 per cent of Canadians surveyed for the company by Leger, weren\u2019t able to see their family physician the same or next day when help is needed. \u201cThat\u2019s not a very good statistic,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen access is delayed or conditions stay undetected, conditions continue to progress silently and they become bigger problems. They may require more sophisticated care,\u201d he explains. \u201cThat translates directly into unplanned, missed days at work, disability days and a decrease in productivity.
