The common goal among most up-and-coming regional (or international) mixed martial arts (MMA) prospects is to one day compete for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Other major promotions such as Bellator MMA, Professional Fighter’s Leagues, and ONE Championship are not far behind. Literally, countless prospects across the globe are all working toward the same career goal, making it difficult to stand out in the sea of competition. As often as possible, MMAmania.com will highlight a different combat sports prospect to keep your eyes on.

Muhammad Davis
Age: 28
Height: 6’3”
Weight class: Heavyweight
Record: 3-0
Gym: Manchester Top Team

There is no denying it: Heavyweight MMA has been pretty awful in recent years — and not just inside UFC.

Fresh, exciting contenders have been difficult to find, but a new generation of smaller, faster and more athletic Heavyweights has finally begun to emerge. Fighters such as upcoming UFC title challenger Josh Hokit and UFC newcomer Anthony Wint have brought some much-needed life to the division.

Now, there is another ultra-athletic big man worth watching: Muhammad Davis.

The 28-year-old was born in San Jose, California, but his unusual journey has taken him across the world and ultimately landed him in Manchester, England.

Davis began training Muay Thai at just nine years old while living in Abu Dhabi, where his family had relocated for work. When they eventually returned to California, Davis already knew he wanted to become a fighter, so he added Brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing to his arsenal.

By the time he was 14, Davis had found his longtime head coach and was already sparring with professional fighters.

Then his family moved again.

Davis relocated to Turkey before eventually spending time in Russia, where he attended college and immersed himself in high-level wrestling for four years. That experience helped round out a skill set that had already been built around striking and jiu-jitsu.

After completing that chapter of his life, Davis settled in the United Kingdom and joined Manchester Top Team.

Unfortunately, finding a gym was much easier than finding an opponent.

For three frustrating years, Davis could not secure a single professional fight — an all-too-common problem on the regional scene, particularly for Heavyweights whom few opponents are willing to face.

Fast-forward to 2026, and Davis has finally arrived.

“I’ve just been in the dark, building,” Davis told MMAmania.com.

Now that the lights are on, he is making up for lost time.

Davis has already fought three times this year, bulldozing every opponent placed in front of him. He stopped his professional debut opponent in less than two minutes, knocked out his next foe in just nine seconds and then finished 6-foot-8 Heavyweight Rob Lamont in the second round last weekend.

Davis represents the new breed of Heavyweight. He is quick, powerful and unusually fluid for a man his size. He fights like a berserker when he smells blood, but there is real technique behind the aggression.

The scary part is that Davis has barely shown his complete game.

His explosiveness and finishing instincts have ended fights before he could display much of the grappling ability he spent years developing. At 3-0, he remains somewhat raw, but that is expected from a prospect who waited three years just to begin his professional career.

Davis wants to return in November and remain as active as possible afterward. However, he is not desperate to rush into UFC simply because Heavyweight prospects often receive opportunities earlier than fighters in deeper divisions.

“I’m in no rush,” Davis said. “I know I will get there. It’s inevitable. For me, it’s about what I’m going to do when I get there.”

“If I get a call tomorrow and I feel like I’m not ready, I’ll take more fights on the regional scene,” Davis continued. “I’m not one of those guys who will ride in on the hype train and pad my record. I’m intentional, and when I get there, I want to stay.”

That patience is admirable, but Davis may not be allowed to remain hidden much longer.

Athletic Heavyweights are always in demand, and undefeated ones with three consecutive stoppages tend to attract attention quickly. If Davis continues bulldozing opponents at this rate, the UFC phone call could arrive much sooner than he expects.
