remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who recently joked that “we don’t need an election on November 3” because of her high confidence in Democrats’ retaining control of the governor’s office.

“That is the attitude we get from these people who’ve been in charge of our state for 16 years, and they think that they can just do whatever they want, get whatever bad results, the highest taxes in the country for the worst results, taking everybody for granted, taking their votes for granted,” Hilton said.

Becerra, meanwhile, criticized Hilton for backing Proposition 39, an initiative on the ballot this year that would require voters to present a government-issued ID to cast a ballot in person.

“That would make it harder for Californians to vote,” Becerra said of the measure. “We have to all vote no on 39 to send a clear message to Donald Trump and Steve Hilton that we want people to vote.”

Hilton argued back that “there’s a majority in this state who agree that it’s reasonable to show ID when you vote,” and echoed the refrain that “if we vote the same way in this state as we’ve been doing, we’re going to get the same results.”
