Our priority is to identify responsible and sustainable efficiencies while protecting the services our community relies on.”

As the hospital faces high occupancy levels, averaging 296 patients per day this year, there’s also the issue of alternate level of care patients – or those who no longer require acute hospital services, but are awaiting placement in long-term care, supportive living, or other settings.

During the first quarter of the year, the hospital averaged 75 ALC patients per day, or 2,287 patient days per month, highlighting ongoing pressures beyond the hospital itself.

“Ongoing capacity constraints outside the hospital, including limited supportive living and long-term care availability, have increased the number of patients waiting in hospital for placement,” Young said.

“These system-wide pressures impact patient flow, contribute to sustained occupancy levels, and increase the resources required to safely provide care.”

Sault Area Hospital officials are exploring cost-saving measures as they face $25.7-million deficit As Sault Area Hospital stares…

[34
49,48,84,392,84364
post-917258","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-sault-area-hospital
["GET
