The isolation of a patient who was potentially suspected of having the Ebola virus was lifted Thursday evening at the University of Montreal Hospital Centre (CHUM).<\/p>\n

Ellen Caracas, senior media relations advisor for the Montreal hospital centre, provided this update via email in the evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, the Ebola protocols will not be activated,\u201d she clarified.<\/p>\n

The CHUM had confirmed earlier in the evening that a person potentially infected with the virus was being evaluated in its facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Caracas explained at the time that the usual protocols for this type of case had been put in place.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmbulances are being temporarily diverted to allow us to safely transfer the patient from the ambulance to the dedicated isolation room in an emergency,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

An outbreak of the Bundibugyo virus of Ebola has been ongoing since last May in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.<\/p>\n

The World Health Organization declared a public health emergency of international concern on May 17.<\/p>\n

On its website updated on September 21, the Quebec government specifies that \u201cto date, no cases of Ebola disease have been reported in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe probability of the virus being introduced into Canada by a contagious traveler is low,\u201d it states.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Symptoms of this virus can appear suddenly from 2 to 21 days after exposure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first symptoms may be fever, chills, headache, muscle weakness, fatigue, or even a sore throat and cough.<\/p>\n
