{"id":918887,"date":"2026-10-03T09:10:48","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T09:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/918887\/"},"modified":"2026-10-03T09:10:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T09:10:48","slug":"report-kasey-kahne-returns-to-nascar-for-full-2027-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/918887\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Kasey Kahne Returns to NASCAR for Full 2027 Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former <a href=\"https:\/\/fanbuzz.com\/racing\/nascar\/nascar-shares-new-details-about-kyle-busch-celebration-of-life\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NASCAR<\/a> championship contender is returning for the full 2027 season, according to a new report from\u00a0The Athletic.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fanbuzz.com\/racing\/xfinity-provides-full-access-to-kasey-kahne-return-to-nascar\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kasey Kahne<\/a> is back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7654174\/2026\/10\/02\/kasey-kahne-comeback-retirement-spire-motorsports-truck-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jordan Bianchi reported on Friday<\/a> \u2014 the day of the week closely associated with the veteran racer \u2014 that Kahne is coming out of retirement. Bianchi&#8217;s sources, speaking under condition of anonymity, say that he is closing in on a deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/fanbuzz.com\/racing\/nascar\/spire-motorsports-honors-kyle-busch-with-throwback-schemes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spire Motorsports<\/a> to pilot one of the team&#8217;s full-time entries in the Craftsman Truck Series.<\/p>\n<p>Kahne, 46, has not competed in a full NASCAR season since 2017. He only made 25 starts in 2018 after abruptly retiring due to health concerns, which included dehydration and heat exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p>Once he walked away from NASCAR, he shifted his focus to sprint car racing. He competed full-time in both the World of Outlaws and High Limit Racing.<\/p>\n<p>The Washington state native achieved success when healthy. He made 529 starts in the Cup Series while driving for Ray Evernham, <a href=\"https:\/\/fanbuzz.com\/racing\/nascar\/former-nascar-and-nhl-team-owner-passes-away-george-gillett-jr-was-87\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Petty Motorsports<\/a>, Red Bull Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, and Leavine Family Racing. He won 18 races, including three Coca-Cola 600s and one Brickyard 400.<\/p>\n<p>Kahne also made 215 starts in the O&#8217;Reilly Auto Parts Series and six starts in the Craftsman Truck Series before walking away from the sport. He delivered eight O&#8217;Reilly Series wins and five Truck Series wins.<\/p>\n<p>He then returned in 2025 for one O&#8217;Reilly Series start at Rockingham. He drove for Richard Childress Racing and finished 14th.<\/p>\n<p>Kahne will now return to NASCAR once again, according to\u00a0The Athletic,\u00a0and he will give Spire Motorsports the opportunity to compete for a drivers&#8217; championship.<\/p>\n<p>The NASCAR team has fielded full-time entries in the Truck Series this season, but none have featured a full-time driver. Eighteen different competitors have made Truck Series starts for Spire Motorsports this season, and two celebrated wins.<\/p>\n<p>The late Kyle Busch, <a href=\"https:\/\/fanbuzz.com\/racing\/nascar\/kyle-busch-passes-away-at-the-age-of-41\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who passed away on May 21<\/a>, won at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Dover Motor Speedway.
