\n The pilot suspected of having attacked another pilot<\/a> aboard a Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai flight on Wednesday was removed from a previous job at Oman\u2019s national airline last year following concerns about his extremist views, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.\n <\/p>\n

\n The pilot is an Omani citizen named Hamam al-Hammami, according to the two sources and an Israeli official. Saudi state media also identified al-Hammami. He was born in the United Arab Emirates to an Omani father and Syrian mother and has spent several years of his life in the UAE, one of the sources added.\n <\/p>\n

\n A LinkedIn profile bearing the name Hamam al-Hammami said he worked at Oman Air for seven years, leaving in February 2025, before joining Royal Air Maroc in June 2025 and departing in January 2026. The page made no mention of Flydubai. One of the sources confirmed that the profile belongs to the Flydubai pilot in Wednesday\u2019s incident. The profile has since been deleted and CNN has reached out to LinkedIn for comment.\n <\/p>\n

\n The second source, a diplomat from the region, told CNN the suspect was removed from flight training because of the concerns over his radical views and was given another role at Oman\u2019s national airline.\n <\/p>\n

\n On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the suspect was believed to have undergone \u201cIslamist radical indoctrination.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The Israeli official told CNN that al-Hammami had worked for Flydubai for only eight months<\/a>. A fourth source said the alleged assailant had previously worked for Royal Air Maroc.\n <\/p>\n

\n The revelations will raise concerns about the importance of background checks in aviation hiring. CNN has reached out to Oman Air, Royal Air Maroc and the Dubai government\u2019s media office for comment.\n <\/p>\n

\n Flydubai said it could not provide comment while the incident remained under investigation.\n <\/p>\n

Threatening mutilation and death<\/p>\n

\n Only two posts were made to the LinkedIn profile, and both were published in quick succession on Wednesday, about nine hours after the incident.\n <\/p>\n

\n It is unclear who published the posts or whether they were scheduled in advance.\n <\/p>\n

\n The first post featured a series of clips filmed in the cockpits of a Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The aircraft that diverted to Saudi Arabia in Wednesday\u2019s incident was a Flydubai 737 Max 8.\n <\/p>\n

\n In one clip, which CNN geolocated to Dubai International Airport, the person filming zooms in on a plane that belongs to the Israeli airline El Al.\n <\/p>\n

\n In the video, the cockpit screen showed the flight number \u2013 OMA624 \u2013 and date, October 11, 2023. The flight number corresponds to a flight that typically travels from Dubai to Muscat. The date matches the period of time he worked at Oman Air.\n <\/p>\n

\n In other clips in the video, more planes from El Al, as well as one from Arkia, another Israeli airline, are shown.\n <\/p>\n

\n The video ends with a photo of Ayman al-Zawahiri, who led al Qaeda after the death of Osama Bin Laden, and a photo of Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, who killed nine people, including seven American CIA officers and contractors, in a 2009 suicide bombing, and was loyal to al Qaeda.\n <\/p>\n

\n The second post features an AI-generated image depicting Islam\u2019s three holiest sites \u2013 in Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem \u2013 linked by a continuous glowing trail. A defiant poem recited in the background speaks of rejecting humiliation, not fearing death and defending one\u2019s dignity.\n <\/p>\n

\n Al-Hammami\u2019s LinkedIn page said he studied at Buckinghamshire New University in England. A source at the university confirmed to CNN that a man by that name had completed a three-year distance learning course, graduating with a degree in aviation management in 2023.\n <\/p>\n

\n The same two videos were posted around the same time on an Instagram account bearing the same name and pictures, before that account was also deleted. CNN has reached out to Meta for comment.\n <\/p>\n

\"Passengers<\/p>\n

\n A CNN analysis of al-Hammami\u2019s deleted Twitter account shows him as deeply religious and misogynistic.\n <\/p>\n

\n In deleted posts, al-Hammami discussed the difficulties his mother faced in finding him a prospective wife who would accept his conditions that she wear a niqab, a face covering, and stop working after marriage.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThey all refused. Then my mother told them, \u2018My son is a pilot,\u2019 and they all suddenly agreed,\u201d the post from February 2022 said.\n <\/p>\n

\n The posts also railed against mixed-gender workplaces, saying they had a corrupting effect on women.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHow many respectable, religious girls have been ruined in mixed-gender work environments and manipulated?\u201d a post from January 2022 said.\n <\/p>\n

\n The nearly 3,000 deleted tweets, published between 2021 and 2022, were analyzed and sorted using an AI-powered semantic search model.\n <\/p>\n

\n Questions are mounting over how a citizen of Oman, which does not recognize Israel, was permitted to serve as a pilot on a flight to Tel Aviv, despite Israel\u2019s stringent aviation security measures.\n <\/p>\n

\n An Israeli official told CNN on Wednesday that several Israeli agencies \u2013 including Shin Bet, Mossad, the military and the Transportation Ministry \u2013 were investigating how the Omani pilot came to be part of the flight crew.\n <\/p>\n

\n The pilot attempted to carry out a \u201cterrorist act\u201d by attacking his colleague with a crash axe inside the cockpit and trying to take control of the plane, the United Arab Emirates attorney general, Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, said on Saturday, according to state news agency WAM.\n <\/p>\n

\n UAE authorities have jurisdiction to investigate the incident because the aircraft is registered in the country, and UAE law applies to crimes committed aboard its planes even when they occur outside the country\u2019s territory, WAM said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Netanyahu told CNN\u2019s Jim Sciutto late on Wednesday that the assailant had been interrogated in Saudi Arabia, where the plane was diverted, with Israel involved in the investigation.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI spoke to the president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and he agreed that Israel would join the interrogations,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n
