\n President Donald Trump railed against Sen. Tom Cotton in a series of posts on Saturday, accusing the Arkansas Republican of holding up a bill that would make Daylight Saving Time<\/a> permanent and encouraging people to call the senator at his cellphone number.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cEverybody in Arkansas, Tom Cotton, a friend of mine, is holding up a very important Bill. It\u2019s called, \u2018The Sunshine Protection Act\u2019 or, \u2018We Don\u2019t Want to Change Our Clocks Twice a Year Act,\u2019\u201d Trump posted<\/a> on Truth Social.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cTo the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate, and for America, itself,\u201d Trump said, including the senator\u2019s phone number.\n <\/p>\n

\n Cotton\u2019s voicemail box was full when CNN called the number. Later, the phone rang three times before an automated voice said the \u201cwireless customer\u201d was not available. CNN has reached out to Cotton\u2019s office for comment.\n <\/p>\n

\n House members overwhelmingly supported<\/a> a measure that would establish year-round Daylight Saving Time nationwide, passing legislation over the summer by a 308 to 117 vote. But the Senate has not moved on the issue since.\n <\/p>\n

\n Trump has long criticized the semiannual clock change, though his position on whether the country should remain on standard time or Daylight Saving Time year-round has shifted over time.\n <\/p>\n

\n Cotton, meanwhile, has opposed altering the status quo. In 2025, he objected to a bipartisan group of senators who sought unanimous consent to pass a similar Daylight Saving Time measure.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cNo one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter,\u201d Cotton posted<\/a> on X shortly after Trump\u2019s first post. \u201cArkansans don\u2019t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I\u2019ll always put Arkansas first.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Trump then responded to Cotton in another post<\/a> on Truth Social.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIf Tom Cotton were putting Arkansas first, he would give them an extra hour of daylight and, more importantly, they wouldn\u2019t have to run all over their houses, farms, work places, and everywhere else, twice a year, having to change their Clocks, and often forgetting to do so,\u201d Trump wrote, attaching a letter<\/a> from PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp sent to him this week expressing \u201cthe Tour\u2019s strong support for the Sunshine Protection Act.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Asked by CNN on Saturday why he posted Cotton\u2019s number on social media, Trump declined to answer and doubled down on his criticism of Daylight Saving Time.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201c(People) don\u2019t want to have to go around changing clocks. I had the same thing last time, six months ago, we\u2019re changing clocks, and nobody changed the clocks and everybody\u2019s late,\u201d Trump said just before departing the White House to attend a Republican midterm election rally in Ohio. \u201cIt makes people \u2014 it discombobulates everybody.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro, who serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, told CNN Saturday that Trump put Cotton \u201cat risk of harm\u201d by sharing his cellphone number, noting \u201cthe ability for China or Russia or some non-state actor to go hack into\u201d the device.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cReally, all they need is your number,\u201d Castro said. \u201cAnd then they\u2019re sophisticated enough to be able to do it.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Proponents of making Daylight Saving Time permanent argue it would spare Americans from having to change their clocks, disrupting young children\u2019s sleep schedules and arguably causing more seasonal depression. But critics say it could have economic consequences<\/a>, particularly for farmers who would have to wrestle with later sunrises. If Daylight Saving Time were made permanent, the sun could rise after 8 a.m. in several major US cities during the winter months.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cTAKE THE WIN TOM, JUST TAKE THE WIN!\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cYOU NEED IT, AND SO DOES OUR BELOVED REPUBLICAN PARTY!\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n It\u2019s not the first time Trump has revealed a sitting senator\u2019s number. He read out Sen. Lindsey Graham\u2019s personal cellphone<\/a> number to a crowded rally when the two were running in the 2016 GOP presidential primary.\n <\/p>\n
