The New York Yankees failed to get anything going on offense in their ALDS opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Drew Rasmussen threw 7.2 innings of no-hit ball to shut down the Yankees order in the 1-0 Rays victory.

New York’s lineup only managed one hit versus Rasmussen and Rays closer Bryan Baker. The one hit, a double by Austin Wells, was eliminated immediately as the catcher was thrown out at third trying to extend the double to a triple.

Tampa Bay’s pitching staff was the story of Game 1.

Drew Rasmussen fanned 10 batters over eight innings. He didn’t give up a hit until the seventh inning.

The Yankees’ only hit of the night was a double by Austin Wells with two out in the seventh inning.

Wells tried to extend the double into a triple, but he was thrown out by a wide margin at third base to end the Yankees’ only real offensive threat of the night.

Cody Bellinger, Spencer Jones and Trent Grisham all struck out twice in Game 1.

Tampa Bay’s only run came on a Jonathan Aranda home run in the third inning.

Gerrit Cole turned in a solid outing for the Yankees. He struck out five batters across five innings. The Yankees bullpen did a solid job containing the Rays to give their offense a chance to win the game in the latter innings.

Game 2 between the Yankees and Rays is scheduled for Monday. Cam Schlittler will pitch for the Yankees, while the Rays have yet to confirm a starter.

The New York Yankees failed to get anything going on offense in their ALDS opener against the Tampa…

[435
49,48,462,82
post-919931","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mlb","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-mlb","tag-sports
["GET
