The woman who has alleged that \u2060she was drugged \u2060and raped \u200bby Cornell University students<\/a> has been the target of threats, her lawyer said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Thomas Giuffra, who represents the \u2060woman identified as \u201cJane Doe\u201d, told CNN that people have threatened to silence or harm her if she does not withdraw her civil lawsuit \u2060alleging that several members of a Cornell fraternity drugged and raped her in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s \u200breceived multiple threats,\u201d Giuffra said on \u200cCNN\u2019s State of the Union.<\/p>\n

Giuffra \u200csaid he had also been threatened.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not afraid of these people,\u201d he \u200csaid. \u201cBut the threats, the abuse to protect what\u2019s going on, the status quo \u2013 these guys are disgusting. They should stay in their mother\u2019s basement and stay out of the world.\u201c<\/p>\n

The Cornell University president, Michael Kotlikoff, said<\/a> in a video message on Saturday that the university will examine the role of fraternities and sororities on \u200ccampus after the outcry over the school\u2019s handling of the rape allegations.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt their best, these organizations can provide students with friendship, belonging, \u200bmentorship and a powerful sense of community,\u201d he said. \u201cBut being part of a group can never diminish individual responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since the lawsuit was filed in September, prosecutors in Tompkins county, New York \u2013 where Cornell is \u2013 have been criticized for their initial handling of the allegations in 2024. \u2060The New York governor, Kathy Hochul, on Thursday named<\/a> state attorney general \u200bLetitia James as special prosecutor \u200bto look into the case.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump, a critic of James for years, lambasted \u200bthe decision to \u200cappoint her. \u201cAnd I \u200bfeel badly for whoever \u200bshe\u2019s looking at because they won\u2019t get a fair shake,\u201d the president told reporters on Friday.<\/p>\n

Asked about Trump\u2019s comment, Giuffra said the case shouldn\u2019t be politicized. \u201cIt has nothing to do with politics,\u201d Giuffra said.<\/p>\n
