Filip Hrgovic is calling for Anthony Joshua to hang up the gloves after he takes on Tyson Fury. In Hrgovic’s eyes, constantly switching corners cannot patch up lost self-belief. That puts the heat right on the former champion before another grueling test.

Teaming up with Ben Davison gives Joshua someone who knows both men well. Hrgovic doubts a new tactical voice can fix the deeper mental puzzle.

“I think it’s not about coaches. I think he’s complicating too much,” Hrgovic told The Stomping Ground. “If you don’t have confidence in yourself … he’s changing coaches like every few months, but it’s not about coaches, it’s about him. He’s definitely doing this big fight … probably for financial reasons, but after this fight, I think he should retire.”

Those comments hit hard, yet they remain one fighter’s opinion. Grabbing an enormous payday doesn’t mean money is his only fuel, just as cycling through trainers doesn’t instantly prove his belief is completely gone.

At the same time, Hrgovic hits on a genuine challenge regarding corner switches late in a career. Davison can sharpen tactical habits in camp, but once the bell rings, Joshua has to react instantly whenever an opponent disrupts his rhythm.

Hesitating against Fury will carry a massive cost. Joshua has to let his hands go with total conviction, especially when Fury relies on awkward feints designed to freeze opponents. Davison’s inside knowledge of Fury provides a solid roadmap, yet execution belongs entirely to Joshua.

Hrgovic only grants Joshua a puncher’s chance here. Joshua certainly possesses devastating knockout power, but relying on a single bomb is a rough path against an elite heavyweight.

The real answer won’t come until fight night. A sharp performance shuts down the retirement talk immediately. A flat outing where Joshua freezes under fire will make future runs at the top impossible to defend.
