{"id":92121,"date":"2025-08-23T21:46:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T21:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/92121\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T21:46:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T21:46:06","slug":"scarborough-town-centre-homicide-victim-identified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/92121\/","title":{"rendered":"Scarborough Town Centre homicide: victim identified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"b-date-custom__date-item\">Updated:\u00a0August 23, 2025 at 5:02PM EDT<\/p>\n<p class=\"b-date-custom__date-item\">Published:\u00a0August 23, 2025 at 4:59PM EDT<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The death of a man at Scarborough Town Centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2025\/08\/21\/police-investigating-suspicious-death-of-man-at-scarborough-town-centre\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2025\/08\/21\/police-investigating-suspicious-death-of-man-at-scarborough-town-centre\/\">earlier this week<\/a> has been a homicide, Toronto police say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/63844\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/63844\/\">In a news release on Saturday<\/a>, police identified the victim as 19-year-old Daniel Amalathas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was located unconscious in the washroom near the lower-level food court on Thursday afternoon. The 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/3KI2A2BFRVDIRM2ZPQ7RZREW2Q.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Scarborough Town Centre shooting Emergency services are in the entrance of a washroom at Scarborough Town Centre responding to a shooting on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He is the city\u2019s 27th homicide victim of 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The cause of death has not been released, but police previously said he had been shot. When officers found Amalathas, a firearm was discovered near him, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere was no sound of gunshots or active shooting. This happened in a very confined space that no one knew,\u201d Acting Insp.
