You can\u2019t hurry love when it comes to Phil Collins and Paul McCartney.<\/p>\n

But they can bury the hatchet, even though it took more than two decades.<\/p>\n

What caused the falling out?<\/p>\n

Collins, 75, shared an update on their longstanding rift<\/a> after McCartney, 84, made a remark about the In the Air Tonight singer at the 2002 Queen\u2019s Jubilee Concert.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a rehearsal at Buckingham Palace and I had a first edition Hunter Davies book (on The Beatles), which was quite rare,\u201d Collins explained to Morgan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI took it to the rehearsal so Paul could sign it,\u201d he recounted, noting how Paul approached him with his then-wife Heather Mills.<\/p>\n

McCartney proceeded to sign the book but then made a comment to Mills that got under Collins\u2019 skin.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe probably didn\u2019t mean it like it sounded, but he said, \u2018He\u2019s a big Beatle fan, is our little Phil,\u2019\u201d the Genesis frontman recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I thought, \u2018You a**hole.\u2019 I couldn\u2019t help it. That\u2019s just what I thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

A misunderstanding?<\/p>\n

Collins acknowledged that he \u201cprobably made more\u201d of McCartney\u2019s statement than it meant, but admitted it still rubbed him the wrong way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew Paul. This wasn\u2019t the first time I met him. I played on one of his albums. I played live with him with the Prince\u2019s Trust. I\u2019d given him an award at an award show in London, so I kind of knew him. So I was kind of surprised at that particular tone of reply,\u201d he told Morgan.<\/p>\n

Collins even detailed the exchange in his 2016 memoir, Not Dead Yet, and while promoting the book, he revealed that the Maybe I\u2019m Amazed singer reached out via email to squash their beef, but Sussudio singer said at the time that he didn\u2019t reply.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until earlier this year that the two legends reconciled.<\/p>\n

Collins revealed that McCartney reached out to him after learning the Against All Odds crooner was collecting music memorabilia donations as part of a charity auction for the King\u2019s Trust.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018While we\u2019re on the phone.\u2019 I thought, \u2018Oh, here we go,\u2019\u201d Collins told Morgan.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo he said, \u2018What is all this about?\u2019 I said, \u2018I wish I\u2019d never said it, Paul. I wish I\u2019d never said it.\u2019 He said, \u2018I thought we were good, you know.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While Collins didn\u2019t get more specific than that, he did say that the two \u201ckissed and made up\u201d in the end.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said I was sorry, because I really didn\u2019t wish him \u2026\u201d Collins trailed off before subtly shading Macca.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, obviously, this had been bugging him because he likes to be liked, as we all do! Maybe him more than some other people. But we all like to be liked. I understand that.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time Collins has shared the two putting the past behind them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve made up,\u201d Collins told the Sunday Times<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s happy about the fact that we discussed it. And I\u2019m happy we discussed it, so it was just really lovely that it\u2019s gone full circle now.\u201d<\/p>\n
