After years of making highly regarded flip-style foldable phones, in 2026 Motorola has taken that expertise to make its first book-style 2-in-1 folding handset, the Motorola Razr Fold. It features excellent cameras, a powerful processor, long battery life, outstanding durability and plenty of ongoing support, enough to earn praise in our Razr Fold review.

The review noted a standout feature of the Razr Fold — stylus support via the new Moto Pen Ultra, a feature notably absent in other book-style foldables on the market. “I used the pen for annotations, writing search queries that the onboard AI did an excellent job interpreting, and drawing,” said TechRadar Editor-at-Large Lance Ulanoff in his review.

Pairing the Moto Pen Ultra with the Razr Fold’s expansive 8.1-inch inner screen creates a pocketable tablet with an unrestricted workspace for professionals, creatives and enthusiasts, folding into a slim package that slips into your pocket or bag in the same space as a traditional candybar handset.

But that’s not all — Motorola is maximising all that screen real estate with Moto AI, using intuitive multitasking workflows for running multiple app windows, unique stylus gestures like dragging and dropping text, and AI-powered features like summarised messaging threads on Microsoft Teams, Slack, Discord and other communications platforms.

Is the Motorola Razr Fold good for productivity?

Featuring a spacious 6.6-inch pOLED cover screen and a generous 8.1-inch 2K LTPO inner display, the Motorola Razr Fold easily switches from a candybar phone to a tablet in seconds, making it an excellent portable workspace small enough to fit in most pockets. The handset also has stylus support — which isn’t available in some competing devices — with the Moto Pen Ultra, perfect for writing, drawing and even multitasking.

You’re also not limited to phone or tablet orientations, either, with the Razr Fold’s displays adjusting to how the handset is positioned. ‘Tent mode’, or standing the device up horizontally like a tent, props up the cover screen for hands-free calls, while ‘Laptop mode’ turns half of the inner screen into a trackpad or keyboard when it’s sitting up in an L-shape position.

Motorola added multitasking features to maximise the Razr Fold’s expanded screen space by allowing you to seamlessly switch between app windows, enable split-screen mode and save app pairings for quick access.

Powering everything is the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, giving the Razr Fold snappy performance. A massive 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery also ensures you can be productive well into the next day, offering up to 16 hours of use in our lab tests — a class-leading result in the foldables category.

What makes the Motorola Razr Fold ideal for multitasking?

Aside from its spacious 8.1-inch inner screen and 6.6-inch cover screen, the Motorola Razr Fold uses gestures and finger taps to juggle multiple open apps at the same time. You can either have a single app to cover the whole inner screen or two in a split-screen setup — like having the Notes app on one side and a Google Chrome window on the other side. If you need to open another app, you can launch it as a floating window that you can drag around the screen. There’s also an option to have all three windows as floating windows and have a fourth take over the whole screen (behind the other windows).

In split-screen mode, you can temporarily adjust one of the apps to take a bigger share of the screen without having to fully minimise the other app. If you also find yourself using the same two apps together, like Google Chrome and the Notes app when you’re doing research, you can save them as a pair by tapping the split-screen divider bar and you can then pin the pairing to the taskbar for quick access.

Moto AI also offers ‘Catch Me Up’, a notification summariser feature, as well as ‘Pay Attention’, which runs in the background while recording, transcribing and summarising meetings or conversations, which can be later accessed in the Notes or Journal app.

How does Moto Pen Ultra improve productivity on the Motorola Razr Fold?

Designed for the flagship Motorola Signature handset and the Motorola Razr Fold, the Moto Pen Ultra turns your phone screen into a digital canvas or workstation. But it doesn’t end at just writing down notes or sketching and drawing — the Pen Ultra also provides shortcuts like quick clipping, screenshots, dragging and dropping text between apps, creating generative AI drawings and acting as a remote camera shutter.

When sketching, the Pen Ultra uses pressure sensitivity and tilt detection to automatically swap out the brush stroke size, ranging from a precision fine-tipped edge for the finer details to thicker strokes for shading and shadows, depending on how it interacts with the screen. Palm rejection also means you can rest your hand on the screen while using the Moto Pen Ultra without the Fold Ultra detecting it as a finger tap, similar to how you would normally use a pen on paper.

The Pen Ultra works instantly and is lag-free, thanks to its ultra-low latency to truly emulate writing or sketching with a traditional pen and paper. Battery life is rated for up to 3 hours of active writing time, and its included charging case — which has a unique fabric finish — provides an extra 24 hours of battery life. The Moto Pen Ultra is sold separately as an accessory, but you can find it bundled with the Motorola Razr Fold from some telcos and retailers, especially during big sale events.

How does Moto AI improve productivity on the Motorola Razr Fold?

Having officially launched Moto AI in 2025, Motorola has some experience leveraging AI-powered software for its handsets, using that knowledge to bolster the Razr Fold’s multitasking capabilities.

Moto AI features like the ‘Catch Me Up’ summariser and the transcription component of ‘Pay Attention’ can use the split screen or the floating windows to run with other apps open.

The Moto Pen Ultra also lets creatives generate images and graphics from rough sketches with ‘Sketch to Image’ and Moto AI Image Studio, and the Razr Fold provides a roomy canvas to create more images than they would otherwise make with a smaller screen. The stylus also lets you drag and drop text from one app to another, instead of manually cutting or copying and pasting like the traditional clipboard.

Why is the Motorola Razr Fold one of the best foldables for work?

The Motorola Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch cover screen and a large 8.1-inch inner display that provides plenty of room for writing down notes, filling out forms, signing electronic documents, sketching, drawing and more. When paired with a third-party Bluetooth keyboard or even a mouse, you can replicate a portable desktop setup in a pinch. There’s also an option to connect the Razr Fold to an external monitor (or even smart glasses) via the USB-C charging port and Motorola’s Smart Connect software, turning the handset into a complete workstation.

Multitasking tools also help complete the portable workstation experience, allowing you to open as many as three apps at the same time — including split-screen mode for two apps plus a third app in a window. AI tools like ‘Pay Attention’ for recording and transcription and ‘Catch Me Up’ for notification summaries also help make work easier. The Moto Pen Ultra can also go beyond the usual stylus functionality, where you can drag and drop text from one app to another — supercharging the classic copy/cut and paste clipboard.

The Razr Fold offers more functionality outside of the default unfolded position — Flex View, which activates when the Razr Fold is in ‘tent mode’, props up the cover screen horizontally for hands-free calls, watching videos, or even displaying a clock and a calendar while in standby mode. There’s also ‘Laptop mode’, which activates when the Razr Fold is in an L-shaped position like a laptop, where the bottom of the inner screen turns into an interactive trackpad or keyboard, while the top half becomes the main screen. The Razr Fold’s titanium-reinforced design supports the handset’s hinge mechanism, letting you use those setups for as long as required.

Can the Motorola Razr Fold replace a tablet for work?

The Motorola Razr Fold is a great two-for-one option for professionals, filling in the roles of both a smartphone and a tablet in one device — all while being slim enough to fit comfortably in most pockets. Having a larger screen on demand by just unfolding a phone means you won’t need to lug around a tablet or rummage through your bag to find it when you need it.

Having stylus support, especially with the Moto Pen Ultra, also makes the Razr Fold better suited for work compared to other book-style foldables that lack the digitiser layers to make a stylus work. From note-taking and document annotations to sketching and even multitasking, the Moto Pen Ultra is a fantastic addition to the Razr Fold for productivity.

The handset’s multitasking capabilities allow for multiple apps to run simultaneously, either in split-screen mode or with resizable floating windows to make the Razr Fold resemble a desktop environment. You can also pair an external keyboard and mouse with the handset for a more familiar workstation experience, and Smart Connect also lets you connect an external monitor to give you either a desktop-style interface or a dedicated space for videoconferencing (plus options for streaming services and games).

Simply put, the Motorola Razr Fold is the ultimate portable productivity machine thanks to a vibrant 8.1-inch fold-out screen, stylus support with the Moto Pen Ultra, multitasking software and the option to pair with an external monitor and peripherals. With a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset and a long-lasting silicon-carbon battery, you really can’t go wrong with the Motorola Razr Fold for your next phone.
