{"id":925751,"date":"2026-10-08T21:28:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T21:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/925751\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T21:28:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T21:28:11","slug":"nascars-christopher-bell-to-kyle-larson-i-hope-it-happens-to-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/925751\/","title":{"rendered":"NASCAR\u2019s Christopher Bell to Kyle Larson: \u201cI Hope It Happens to Him\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"0\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">Christopher Bell says he hopes Kyle Larson loses the power steering in his race car after learning the Hendrick Motorsports driver downplayed the adversity he faced last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"1\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">Larson\u2019s comments came on the podcast Stacking Pennies with Corey LaJoie and Ryan Flores. When Bell\u2019s power steering issue was addressed during the show, Larson responded, \u201cThere is no chance that Christopher Bell is hanging on to a race car with no power steering. When people say no power steering, you have some power steering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"3\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">One of the show\u2019s hosts then said that Bell said it was completely gone, to which Larson responded, \u201cBullshit!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cI\u2019ll give him some flowers, but zero percent power assist on an intermediate, no way,\u201d Larson said.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"5\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">When Bell was told Larson downplayed his situation during the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Bell responded, \u201cWell, I hope it happens to him so he can talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"6\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">Bell said the power steering loss in his car was a \u201cslow degradation\u201d that began late in Stage two.<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"las vegas, ca october 04 chase briscoe 19 joe gibbs racing bass pro shops toyota and christopher bell 20 joe gibbs racing rheem toyota lead the field on a restart during the south point 400 nascar cup series chase playoff race on october 4, 2026 at las vegas motor speedway in las vegas, nv photo by jeff speerlvmsicon sportswire via getty images\" title=\"AUTO: OCT 04 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs South Point 400\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/50a87007-c068-4ece-aeda-faffd5f2a7fd.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1ddfba50\"\/>Icon Sportswire<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Bell (#20) trails behind Chase Briscoe (#19) at Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cIt went from 50 percent assist to 20 percent assist to the stall moment,\u201d Bell said. \u201cI really don\u2019t know if I had 10 percent assist, 20 percent assist, all I know is that I couldn\u2019t turn the car.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cOne thing that was interesting was that under yellow, I would get some amount of power steering back. So, like swerving tires or just driving around under yellow, it would be somewhat there. Then the moment that we would get up to speed, I would have one corner where it was kind of somewhat there, and then it would go away again. I have no idea how much power steering I had or how little power steering I had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">Bell, who trails standings leader Larson by 55 points with five races remaining, admits the Las Vegas race was \u201cdisheartening\u201d because they had their  opportunity stolen by a part failure.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"12\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cIt was a part that had been tested and I believe it was a part that nobody had, had an issue with in the past,\u201d Bell said. \u201cIt was nobody\u2019s fault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">After Bell\u2019s car lost its power steering, the JGR driver equated the race to running a marathon.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"14\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cI knew quitting wasn\u2019t an option,\u201d Bell said. \u201cI just had to run the pace that I could drive the car to finish the race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400\" title=\"NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"5973\" height=\"3982\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/cb93a7bc-330c-4081-9d73-5402c468ed60.jpeg\" class=\"css-0 e1ddfba50\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Chris Graythen\/\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"16\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">Bell said he was fortunate the power steering failure occurred at a 1.5-mile speedway and not a short track, such as Martinsville or Bristol where it would have been more detrimental. Bell explained that the corners\u2019 large size allowed his car to turn itself.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"17\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cI really couldn\u2019t turn the wheel further than it wanted to go, so I just had to slow my pace down until the car would just track the corner,\u201d Bell explained. \u201cIt was just a matter of using the camber and the caster and the setup on the car to make the corner. It wasn\u2019t much fun, that\u2019s for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"19\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">Bell is thankful the power steering loss didn\u2019t occur two weeks earlier due to the continued healing of his left wrist that he broke in June. He said it was not a limiting factor in the Las Vegas race.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"20\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cOn Monday my shoulders and my hands were the big things that hurt from gripping the wheel a lot harder than I\u2019m used to, and then, obviously, the effort that it took to turn the car through the corners. My arms were really fatigued,\u201d Bell said.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"21\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">\u201cHonestly, the biggest price that I paid was on new tires.
