{"id":92604,"date":"2025-08-24T02:42:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T02:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/92604\/"},"modified":"2025-08-24T02:42:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T02:42:12","slug":"brad-gilbert-reacts-to-coco-gauff-changing-her-coach-so-close-to-the-us-open-starting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/92604\/","title":{"rendered":"Brad Gilbert reacts to Coco Gauff changing her coach so close to the US Open starting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a bid to win her second Grand Slam title of the year, Coco Gauff made a bold move right before the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>After struggling for form since winning Roland Garros in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/matt-daly-gives-his-honest-opinion-on-coco-gauff-as-they-end-their-coaching-relationship-before-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff chose to replace coach Matt Daly<\/a> in the days leading up to the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>She is now working with biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan, who previously enjoyed success alongside world number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aryna Sabalenka<\/a>, improving her serve.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"701\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227389719-1024x701.jpg\" alt=\"Aryna Sabalenka serving at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-123147\" \/>Photo by Simon Bruty\/Anychance\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The American has struggled with her serve over recent months, making a worryingly high number of double faults.<\/p>\n<p>Legendary coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-gauff-already-noticed-making-change-to-her-game-since-swapping-coaches-you-can-see-the-difference\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Macci believes MacMillan has already improved Gauff\u2019s serve<\/a> after watching them practice together ahead of the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>Another top coach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/brad-gilbert\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Gilbert<\/a>, who guided Gauff to her first major title at the US Open in 2023, has now weighed in with his thoughts on the move.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Gilbert thinks Coco Gauff is looking for \u2018lightning in a bottle\u2019 by hiring Gavin MacMillan<\/p>\n<p>Appearing as a guest on CNBC, Gilbert gave his verdict on Gauff\u2019s decision to replace Daly with MacMillan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was struggling a little bit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is looking for a little bit of lightning in a bottle, and sometimes in tennis, it\u2019s not like you have teammates and a general manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf things aren\u2019t working, you make a move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 64-year-old knows that all too well, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/andy-roddick-rates-how-well-brad-gilbert-did-as-coco-gauffs-coach-out-of-10-after-split\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff split with Gilbert<\/a> after the US Open last year, following her disappointing fourth-round exit.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert was then asked by the CNBC hosts whether a coach has ever joined a player\u2019s team last minute and turned things around before a tournament.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2230664038-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"Gavin MacMillan and Coco Gauff in conversation during practice ahead of the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-123459\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s happened a few times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like a new relationship at times.
