October 8, 2026Pereira’s UFC Contract Makes a Boxing Switch Difficult

Pereira didn’t announce any retirement, and he also didn’t confirm plans of leaving the UFC for boxing. What he said instead shows how difficult that move becomes when you are still tied to a long deal with the promotion. Honestly, it’s not a small thing.

When asked about his remaining UFC commitments, the Brazilian gave a pretty blunt answer to Fred Talks Fighting.

“Well, we have seven fights left on my UFC contract. I’m 39. It’s kind of impossible.”

Pereira signed an eight-fight UFC contract earlier in 2026. Seven bouts are still remaining, so finishing the agreement can take most of the time he has left in his fighting career. Time waits for no man, as they say.

The former middleweight and light heavyweight champion is now competing at heavyweight. His first appearance in this division was against Ciryl Gane on June 14, and he got knocked out in the second round of their interim title fight.

Heavyweight Fight With Sergei Pavlovich Set for UFC 335

Pereira already has one more heavyweight assignment waiting for him. UFC CEO Dana White announced that he will face knockout artist Sergei Pavlovich in the co-main event of UFC 335 on December 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The matchup is scheduled for five rounds, even though it’s a co-main event and not the headline fight. So it could also work as a title eliminator, which gives the winner a possible road to a heavyweight championship opportunity.

But a professional boxing debut is not the only thing outside MMA. If Pereira finishes his UFC contract around age 41 or 42, exhibition boxing could still be an option, even when he doesn’t go for a professional bout, if you really look at it.

For now, his focus stays on the UFC commitments, with Pavlovich coming next on the schedule.
