electric fence around the maze<\/a>\u00a0in 2024.<\/p>\nIt worked, Bridget said. Grizzlies are still in the general area, but they steer clear of the corn maze.<\/p>\n
When the mountain lion showed up, it raised some eyebrows in the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople around us were seeing it, including in the daylight,\u201d Bridget said.<\/p>\n
One of their neighbors, from whom they lease ground for corn crops, was concerned about his pets getting eaten, she noted.<\/p>\n
Finally, Treed<\/p>\n
Cecil said he started tracking the mountain lion last month. The first few outings were busts.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been so dry, my dogs were having trouble finding the scent. They need good moisture in the ground to pick up a scent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
A couple of times, he saw a fresh grizzly sign and called off his dogs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like my dogs too much to want them to even get close to a grizzly bear,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
When the mountain lion was sighted Tuesday afternoon, Bridget called Cecil and told him to hurry over with the hounds.<\/p>\n
His wife and their two children tagged along.<\/p>\n
At first, it seemed the hunt might end like the others. The hounds were milling around a patch of corn on the neighbor\u2019s leased property.<\/p>\n
The hunters thought the mountain lion was hiding in there, but the dogs couldn\u2019t find it.<\/p>\n
Finally, one of them locked onto the scent, and the game was on.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe let the dogs do their thing for a while, then we approached, and my son told me where to shoot it (the mountain lion),\u201d Bridget said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was pretty excited,\u201d\u00a0Cecil said. \u201cShe was shaking quite a bit.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The mountain lion was a roughly 75-pound female, thought to be about 3 years old.<\/p>\n

Bridget was thrilled to have her son, daughter-in-law, and two of her grandchildren there for her successful hunt.<\/p>\n
Her grandson Wyatt, 3, was nonchalant.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been around his dad\u2019s taxidermy shop and seen lots of mountain lions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe told me, \u2018That\u2019s not a very big cat, Grandma,'” she added.<\/p>\n
She didn\u2019t let her grandson\u2019s remark throw her off.<\/p>\n
\u201cI told him, \u2018If your dad can\u2019t make a mount of that, do you think you could?\u2019 and he told me, \u2018Yeah, I think I could do it,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Cecil said he\u2019s looking forward to preparing his mom\u2019s trophy.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re going to do a life-sized mount. She says she wants to display it in her house,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
