{"id":926425,"date":"2026-10-09T10:46:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T10:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/926425\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T10:46:22","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T10:46:22","slug":"jobs-in-canada-new-statistics-report-coming-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/926425\/","title":{"rendered":"Jobs in Canada: New statistics report coming today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">OTTAWA \u2014 Statistics Canada is set to report its latest jobs numbers this morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Reuters poll of economists predicts employers added 9,200 positions in September, a slight bounce back after roughly 42,000 jobs were lost in August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The consensus among economists is the unemployment rate ticked up to 6.5 per cent from 6.4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The August job losses snapped a hot streak for the labour market, but economists weren\u2019t overly concerned and instead pointed to the relatively stable unemployment rate as a sign the labour market wasn\u2019t taking a major step back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The jobs data will be the Bank of Canada\u2019s last look at the labour market before its next interest rate decision on Oct. 28.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The central bank has kept its key lending rate unchanged at 2.25 per cent for about a year, but market expectations have been shifting lately, with slightly higher odds we\u2019ll see a hike coming sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 9, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Craig Lord, The Canadian Press<\/p>\n<p>Related Stories<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"OTTAWA \u2014 Statistics Canada is set to report its latest jobs numbers this morning.
