Problems related to the police headquarters have plagued the city for more than a decade.<\/p>\n
Klein also alleged staff in the mayor\u2019s office have been calling provincial politicians to try to prevent the report from being discussed in the legislature.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt seems very suspicious to me \u2014 I don\u2019t know what\u2019s in it \u2014 but it seems suspicious that you\u2019ve got the mayor\u2019s office calling everyone they can saying, \u2018Let\u2019s not get this out, let\u2019s not get this out,\u2019 and you\u2019ve got the premier saying, \u2018I don\u2019t want it to interfere with the election,\u2019\u201d Klein claimed.<\/p>\n
Gillingham\u2019s spokesman, Colin Fast, called Klein\u2019s claims lies.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr. Klein is lying. No one from Scott Gillingham\u2019s office or campaign has made any such calls, period. It\u2019s a complete fabrication,\u201d Fast said.<\/p>\n
Klein, who was a minister in the prior Progressive Conservative government, cited his experience in cabinet as evidence the New Democratic Party government led by Kinew must have a draft of the report.<\/p>\n
Klein made the comments a day after he wrote to the provincial government to request that the information be shared promptly<\/a>, before Winnipeg voters go to the polls on Oct. 28.<\/a><\/p>\n A Thursday CBC report said the document is finished, \u201chas been sent to the printer\u201d and submitted to the province but isn\u2019t expected to be publicly released until after the municipal election.<\/p>\n The inquiry\u2019s co-ordinator, however, told the Free Press Thursday the report is still in progress and hasn\u2019t been given to the government.<\/p>\n Kinew, in a radio appearance Friday morning, and via his spokeswoman Amy Tuckett-McGimpsey, said he has yet to see the report.<\/p>\n \u201cThe government has not received a copy of the WPS HQ inquiry report and has not had an opportunity to review it yet,\u201d said a statement from Tuckett-McGimpsey.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t (Mike Thiessen \/ Free Press files)<\/p>\n

The building was completed in 2016. First expected to cost $135 million, the price soared to $214 million, including late flood damage and security upgrades.<\/p>\n An external audit found the project had been severely mismanaged.
