Former black midi frontman Geordie Greep<\/a> denied an allegation of rape during a concert in Vancouver on Thursday night (October 8th), after an individual distributed fliers outside the venue accusing him of sexual assault.<\/p>\n

Greep took the stage without his usual backing band and addressed the allegation directly, telling the audience: \u201cEssentially what happened last night, me and some of the band we went out to some bars, we went out, we met people, and it ended up in a situation really late at a house party. I got the wrong end of the stick with someone who was there, and I made a move, and it didn\u2019t come off.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI really quickly apologized, and it was a complete misunderstanding on my part, and I felt extremely bad, I feel extremely sorry, and extremely upset about the situation,\u201d he continued. \u201cI would never rape a woman. I\u2019m not a rapist. It\u2019s not how that went down.\u201d<\/p>\n

The flier, which was reportedly distributed outside the venue ahead of the show, read: \u201cGeordie Greep A Rapist. You know what you did this morning Oct 8th. He thinks he can do whatever he wants because he\u2019s gone tomorrow. Let Him Know What Vancouver Thinks of Rapists.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greep went on to explain why his backing band would not be performing that evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very strange thing to have happened and a very scary thing, so all of the band, I understand that I didn\u2019t want to force them to still play a show in the light of that happening. We were unsure what the response would be to all this, and I can only tell you that it\u2019s OK if people want refunds, if they want to leave, it\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said he planned to donate the show\u2019s proceeds to an anti-violence organization in British Columbia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to be transparent with you about what happened. I\u2019m very, very, very sorry; I made someone uncomfortable without meaning to. It\u2019s not a good thing, it\u2019s not good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greep then performed a solo set for audience members who chose to remain at the venue.<\/p>\n

Update: Greep has canceled upcoming shows in Boise, Salt Lake City, Boulder, and Denver.<\/p>\n
