Philadelphia 76ers star VJ Edgecombe would take great pride in representing the Bahamas in the Summer Olympics.

On a Twitch stream with teammate Sixers Jaylen Brown, Edgecombe said that would be more significant for him than winning an NBA championship:

Within a basketball context, simply appearing in the Olympics is something American fans and players might take for granted. Qualification is all but guaranteed, and anything short of winning a gold medal is generally considered a massive disappointment for the U.S.

The Bahamas men’s basketball team is still waiting to make its Olympic debut.

Leading up to the 2024 Games in Paris, the squad advanced to a qualifying tournament in Valencia, Spain. It beat Finland, Poland and Lebanon before losing to Spain in the final. Edgecombe had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists in an 86-78 loss.

It’s safe to assume the second-year wing would love to help bring a title to Philly. But guiding the Bahamas to the Olympics would write Edgecombe into his country’s basketball history forever.

If choosing between the two, the latter sounds more meaningful.

Philadelphia 76ers star VJ Edgecombe would take great pride in representing the Bahamas in the Summer Olympics.
