Vancouver FC defender Mateo Campagna was optimistic going into Saturday\u2019s game against Supra du Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n
Supra was breathing down the Eagles\u2019 neck, looking to take the fourth spot in regular season CPL standings, and the last available playoff spot, away from VFC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe last time we were fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season was in 2024, and it didn\u2019t go very well,\u201d Campagna recalled.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut yes, you can feel that this is our year to make it. It\u2019s a goal for the club and for the team. Everyone is excited. Everyone is focused.\u201d<\/p>\n
Campagna certainly was, turning what could have been a 2-1 loss into a 2-2 tie with a goal off a kick by Eagles goaltender Callum Irving late in the game at Stade Bor\u00e9ale in Laval, keeping Vancouver FC in fourth while Supra remains in fifth.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
It was the third match in a week for the Quebec team, while the Eagles had gone two weeks without game, coach Martin Nash noted in a pregame interview.<\/p>\n
\u201c[After a layoff] it can be difficult for us to find our rhythm at the beginning,\u201d Nash observed. <\/p>\n
Supra\u2019s Lo\u00efc Kwemi struck first, creating a 1-0 lead that lasted until VFC\u2019s Terran Campbell scored early in the second.<\/p>\n
Late in the game, Supra regained the lead courtesy of a goal from midfielder Safwane Mlah, only to see Campagna score a few minutes later.<\/p>\n
There are more games to come.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Oct. Eagles final home game of the regular season is against Halifax on Oct 16 at 7 p.m. at the Langley stadium.
