A second round was discharged shortly afterward while the man was on the ground.

Despite repeated commands to drop the fork, the man continued holding it and threw objects toward officers.

Last 30 Days: 54,247 Votes

All Time: 1,568,459 Votes

    853 VOTES
Have you already decided who you’re voting for in the municipal election?

Shortly after, another officer deployed a conducted energy weapon, causing the man to fall forward and allowing officers to take him into custody.

He was subsequently treated at the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured sternum.

In his decision, Martino concluded the officer’s use of force was reasonably necessary given the circumstances, including the potential threat to hospital staff, patients and others nearby.

He noted that the officer had chosen a less-lethal weapon and was responding to a situation involving an armed individual in a hospital.

Although the investigation determined that at least one bean bag round caused the man’s injury, Martino found no grounds to proceed with criminal charges.

The case is now closed.

INsauga’s Editorial Standards and Policies

Stay in the know.

Subscribe now to receive our daily email of today’s top stories in your city!

A Toronto Police officer has been cleared of wrongdoing after a man suffered a fractured sternum when he…

[194291
49,48,3302
post-929344","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-toronto","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-toronto
["GET
