MORGANTOWN, W.Va.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The No. 15 West Virginia University men’s soccer team wraps up a two-game road trip at American on Monday for its final nonconference contest of the season. Kickoff from Reeves Field in the nation’s capital is set for 1 p.m.

\nThe Mountaineers are coming off a 2-1 defeat at Old Dominion on Friday night. Graduate student Aurelien Cormier scored his first-career goal while juniors Jacob Redenfors<\/a> and Kanta Ishii<\/a> each had an assist.
\n\u00a0
\nOverall, West Virginia is 5-2-3 this season. The Mountaineers are ranked in all three polls \u2013 No. 15 (United Soccer Coaches), No. 20 (Top Drawer Soccer), and No. 17 (College Soccer News) \u2013 as well as No. 11 in the RPI.
\n\u00a0
\nSenior Pablo Pozos<\/a> leads the team with four goals and 10 points this season with sophomore Sammie Walker<\/a> has six points on two goals and two assists. Junior Isaac Scheer<\/a> and Redenfors lead the team with three assists.

\nWest Virginia is coming off 13-5-3 season and their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. In the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll, WVU was picked to win the league, the first time the Mountaineers are preseason favorites since 2022.

\nPozos was named the 2026 Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after tallying 11 goals and three assists in his first season with the Mountaineers. Scheer and junior Nacho Martinez<\/a> joined Pozos on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

\nThe Mountaineers return 15 players from last year’s squad while adding 15 newcomers. Six players join WVU out of the transfer portal while there are nine first-year college players.

\nAmerican is 2-6-3 this season and was picked to win the Patriot League in the preseason coaches poll.

\nFive different players have one goal to for the Eagles while Evan Tubbs has made 40 saves in goal.
