A solid move for Buffalo right before facing the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night.

The Sabres have bolstered their blue line with two affordable additions who give them much-needed depth.

Jones, 29, is a left-shot defenseman with 255 NHL games of experience.

He opened the season with three points in four games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League.

Sabres trade Ryan Johnson for two defensemen as Rasmus Dahlin’s injury tests Buffalo’s depth

Laatsch, 24, also shoots left. He played 10 AHL games last season after four years at the University of Wisconsin. He was a seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Johnson, meanwhile, leaves Buffalo after four seasons with the organization.

A first-round pick by the Sabres in 2019, he has appeared in 47 NHL games.

It’s an interesting trade-off.

Buffalo parts ways with a former first-rounder who never secured a regular NHL spot, landing an experienced defenseman and a promising young prospect in return.

Dahlin, 26, has four points in six games and carries an $11 million cap hit. Losing him would leave a significant hole on the blue line, making this trade especially timely.

All eyes will be on Tuesday’s game!

“The Sabres acquired defensemen Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday in exchange for defenseman Ryan Johnson.”

Both newcomers could suit up as early as Tuesday night!
