\u201cBut that was botched, and I nearly died,\u201d he continued. \u201cI was at home two days later, and my lungs just collapsed in bed one night. And I was on my own as well, so it was crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cCalifornia Schemin’\u201d actor went on to explain that he spent the following two to three weeks in the hospital, where doctors tried \u201ceverything\u201d to clear his lungs, but nothing seemed to work.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were like, \u2018We\u2019re going to need to cut you open big style, go in with, like, dish soap basically and just clean you out, scoop it all out,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

He reprised his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man with 24 distinct personalities, in the sequel, but said he spent most of \u201cGlass\u201d portraying \u201cThe Beast.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cUnlike \u2018Split,\u2019 I was \u2018The Beast\u2019 [for] most of the movie, and I was just outside in broad daylight as well,\u201d McAvoy recalled. \u201cSo I was like, \u2018I\u2019m really going to need to do the real thing. I\u2019m going to need to go for it.\u2019 I remember saying to [M. Night Shyamalan], \u2018You\u2019re going to need to get me a trainer.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guy that worked me was amazing,\u201d he added. \u201cFor the first four weeks, he rehabilitated me. I could walk, but I couldn\u2019t run, couldn\u2019t cycle, couldn\u2019t jog \u2026 so he did a lot of rehabilitation and, sort of, functional movement, and then put the pounds on me really fast.\u201d<\/p>\n
