‘My story is about systemic discrimination, bias against boxing, kickboxing, tie boxing, moving tie, and MMA. I’m talking about a government-ring competitive sports conspiracy that began in 1982’

A North Bay man has tried to encompass his decades-long battle with the provincial government and the court system in a documentary about the fate of Ontario Kickboxing.

The documentary, titled “Mick,” describes the frustration he and his twin brother Martin have faced.

“The Mick film highlights our TV Kickboxing footage, movie history, and government documents. Martin and I were very successful,” said Mick.

“The message is never give up when you know you’re right, knowing that all the odds are against you with a high probability of losing everything on top of all your dreams that were systematically stolen from you. Rather than get depressed and go on meds with suicide looming. F#@k them, you go out with a fight, giving it your best shot.”

Mick McNamara is a Canadian martial artist, film producer, director, and actor best known as one half of the “Twin Dragons” alongside his identical twin brother, Martin. He currently operates as the founder of Twin Dragons in North Bay, where he has settled and trained notable local figures including five-time world kickboxing champion Chantal Nadon, who is Mick’s wife.

McNamara has been grappling with the province about the sport of kickboxing for more than three decades. He hopes this film will bring attention to his cause.

“My MICK film has achieved what I set out to do – name and shame them all. I put the names with the faces, the places and the institutions while getting payback. Against all odds, I achieved and produced a highly entertaining action docudrama backed up by great audience reviews,” he said in an email to BayToday.

“The money was always secondary. I expect a substantial payout when I sell MICK with my three other films as a package deal, completing the Twin Dragon film series.”

McNamara is marketing his film to multiple film festivals in the province.

“The feedback is all extremely positive, as I expected, knowing that I had a great story to tell, having faith in myself to pull it off producer-wise,” he said.

“The impact on the viewing audience, over and above their views, inspired them to donate money to my MICK GoFundMe. That’s what a good David vs Goliath movie does.
