Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> head coach Rick Bowness didn\u2019t mince words describing his team\u2019s performance following a 7-3 rout at home by the Florida Panthers<\/a> on Tuesday night. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to hope, you got to believe that performance tonight will embarrass them enough to stop this, right? Because if they\u2019re not embarrassed by that, we don\u2019t want them on the team. It\u2019s as simple as that,\u201d said Bowness. <\/p>\n

With the loss the Blue Jackets are now 2-3 on the season. <\/p>\n

Bowness went on to say a lot of the problems during Tuesday\u2019s loss were \u201cself-inflicted\u201d and seemed hopeful they could be fixed. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe can fix them. We can. I know it looks bad. I believe in what we\u2019re doing, I believe in them and I believe we can fix the problems,\u201d explained Bowness. \u201cThat all being said, if that doesn\u2019t get their attention then they\u2019re on the wrong team. It\u2019s a simple as that.\u201d <\/p>\n

Columbus allowed four goals in the second period, including a natural hat trick from Brady Tkachuk<\/a>. Matthew Tkachuk<\/a> also recorded five assists on the night. <\/p>\n

Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier<\/a> received a five-minute major and game misconduct in the second period for slashing Panthers defenceman Uvis Balinskis<\/a> between the legs. <\/p>\n

Olivier, 29, took accountability for the penalty<\/a> and said he apologized to his teammates. <\/p>\n

\u201cI can sit here and try to rationalize it all I want with you. I don\u2019t even have an explanation for it. It looked bad. It was bad and that\u2019s on me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI apologize to my teammates for putting them in that spot and it\u2019s happened a couple times this year. It\u2019s usually not what I do, but it\u2019s been happening, so I need to look in the mirror and figure it out. That\u2019s all on me.\u201d <\/p>\n

Bowness, who signed a one-year extension for the 2026-27 campaign, also ripped his team following the final game of the last season. <\/p>\n

\u201cThese guys, they don\u2019t care. Losing is not important enough to them. It doesn\u2019t bother them. How can you go out and play like that? I should have done this a month ago. But this is why we are where we are,\u201d Bowness said at the time.<\/a> \u201cThis is why we\u2019re out of the playoffs. That kind of effort. You have to hate losing. I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s a meaningless game. I don\u2019t care. Show up and compete.\u201d<\/p>\n
