Is it okay for non-meat eaters to go on My Kitchen Rules (MKR)<\/a>? That is the question raised on the latest episode of MKR after newcomer Zoe revealed she was a pescatarian, raising questions about whether non-meat eaters should compete in a cooking competition. Now, hosts Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel are weighing in. <\/p>\n

At Ted and Sheridan\u2019s instant restaurant, Zoe explains that while she\u2019d taste everything else, when there\u2019s meat in elements of a dish, her MKR teammate <\/a>Zac would be tasting and judging those elements on her behalf. <\/p>\n

Original contestants Angus and Simon <\/a>and Alisha and Deanne<\/a> were not impressed that one of the Gatecrashers wouldn\u2019t be tasting everything on their plates, and they make their thoughts very clear to newcomers Zoe and Zac. <\/p>\n

\u201cUsually people do not care that I\u2019m a pescatarian,\u201d Zoe said in the episode. \u201cSo I feel like they\u2019re overreacting a bit tonight.\u201d <\/p>\n

According to Sheridan, who was the first Gatecrasher to host their Instant Restaurant with her son, Ted, it was a bit \u201cconfronting\u201d to see Zoe\u2019s plate of uneaten food.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a little bit like, \u2018What\u2019s the point of being down in the kitchen, slogging away, if people are not going to eat it?\u2019\u201d Sheridan tells TV WEEK<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a little bit like, \u2018What is going on?\u2019 That was a lot. We obviously had no clue that she was pescatarian so that were was nothing that we could do about that at that point in time. We didn\u2019t know.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

While the OG contestants were not happy with Zoe\u2019s admission, judge Colin Fassnidge says he doesn\u2019t care how people eat in their spare time, as long as they taste the dishes. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn years before we\u2019ve had healthy people who won\u2019t eat this, we\u2019ve had pescatarians who don\u2019t eat meat\u2026 so I mean, I just want people just to taste the food,\u201d Colin explains. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care if you eat it or not, that\u2019s your problem, you can go hungry, but I want it taken seriously, that you taste it and then you give the proper feedback. You show the respect to the people that cooked it. That\u2019s all I want.\u201d <\/p>\n

Colin\u2019s perspective seems to have shifted slightly since Zoe appeared on the show. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think in the world we live in, vegetarianism and religions, it provides a true spanner in the works and I quite like spanners in the works. That\u2019s life,\u201d Colin told TV WEEK during the 2025 season of MKR. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe world is made of all different people, it doesn\u2019t mean that some people should be selected on the show and some should not,\u201d added Manu. <\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone should be part of the competition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether you agree with vegetarians and pescatarians taking their seat at the My Kitchen Rules dinner table, I think we can all agree Zoe\u2019s pescatarian diet has certainly added a new layer of drama to this year\u2019s MKR kitchen.<\/p>\n
