PUT OUR TAX DOLLARS TO GOOD WORK<\/p>\n

The City of Ottawa rakes in a lot in property taxes, and those taxes are meant to look after infrastructure such as roads and sewers, and pay for services like police and fire.<\/p>\n

Far too often, however, money is being given to special interest groups. The city has no business handing over tax dollars to projects that should be solely funded by private interests. One such project was the Arts Court. The new state-of-the-art library was not needed and has exploded in cost. That\u2019s not what I pay taxes for, and in the meantime our roads and sewers are crumbling.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s time for our money to go toward what benefits the majority. So much could be saved, and ultimately maybe the city could even give beleaguered taxpayers a much-needed break.<\/p>\n
This goes for all levels of government; so much waste, so much money disappearing with no accountability, and it needs to end now. If it doesn\u2019t benefit the majority of taxpayers, then it doesn\u2019t get funding.<\/p>\n

LET US BUY THAT USED CAR TAX-FREE<\/p>\n
There are plans in Quebec to eliminate the sales tax on used goods. This should be everywhere across Canada, just like in Alberta.<\/p>\n
We moved to Alberta in 2012 and, when we purchased our first car there, I went to register and asked how much sales tax I owed, and the lady looked at me and laughed, saying that Albertans don\u2019t pay sales tax on used vehicles, boats, RVs, etc.<\/p>\n
I was one happy camper walking out with hundreds of dollars more in our bank account. This should be everywhere. We already pay sales tax on new vehicles, etc., and it should end there.<\/p>\n
